Chapter 12:

Chapter 7: Reunion Part 2

Super-powered Maids Showed Up Out of Nowhere, and Now I Have to Change My Otaku Lifestyle

“Oh no, it’s her.” Akira muttered.

“Who?” asked Sakura.

“That girl over there at the punch table. That’s my ex.”

A shock ran through Sakura’s head.

“Alright,” she said, grabbing Akira’s hand “let’s go make her jealous then.”

“W-what? No. I don’t want to cause any trouble already. We just got here. Let’s just try to enjoy ourselves, ok?”

“Ok, as you wish.”

“I do want some punch though. Guess we have to go over there anyway. Promise not to say anything to her?” Akira asked sincerely.

“Promise. Let’s go.” Sakura said, still holding Akira’s hand.

Akira poured two cups of punch and handed one to Sakura.

“Here you go. Wanna grab some cookies too while we’re here?”

“Sure, I’ll take two.”

Akira’s ex turned to him and spoke.

“So, you finally managed to get over me and find another girlfriend.” she said in a condescending manner.

“Yeah, I did. This is Sakura, my girlfriend.”

“Wow, her name is Sakura AND she has pink hair? That’s not obvious or anything.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” Sakura said, trying her best to be nice.

“Yeah, whatever. Don’t bother me.”

Akira’s ex walked away to be with a group of old club members.

“What’s her problem?” Sakura asked dryly.

“Her and I don’t exactly have the best past. Let’s just leave it at that. I don’t wanna think about it.”

Out of nowhere, Mei showed up to greet Akira and Sakura.

“Yo, how’s it going nerd?”

“What’s up Mei. Where are the rest of the original members?”

“Over there playing games on the projector. This your girlfriend?”

“Yep. Introduce yourself.”

“I’m Sakura. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”

“I’m Mei. Good to see this guy isn’t such a loser anymore.” Mei jokes.

“Alright, let’s go see what the guys are playing.” Akira said.

The three walked over to a group of well dressed men playing a fighting game that was being projected on the cafeteria wall.

“Well, look who showed up. How’ve you been, Akira?” asked another man wearing glasses.

“I’ve been doing pretty good. How about you, Raymond?”

“Same as usual. Life’s hell.” said Raymond.

“Sounds fun.” Akira said while watching the match going on. “Hey, lemme play the loser of this match.”

“Don’t you have this game at home?” Sakura asked.

“Yeah, but I haven’t gotten to play it recently because of work.”

“I lost. Your turn, Akira.” said another guy handing the controller to Akira.

“I’m gonna run to the restroom real quick.” Sakura said.

“Alright, you know where to find me.” Akira responded.

Sakura wandered off to the restroom to wash her face with cold water.

Great, not only do I have to compete with Mei, but his ex is here too.” she thought to herself.

Without any warning, the door flew open and Akira’s ex walked in.

“You, pink girl, I wanna talk to you.”

“I have a name you know. Speaking of, what’s yours?” Sakura asked defensively.

“It’s Isabella, not like it matters. Anyway, why are you with Akira?”

“Because I love him. Why does it matter to you? You left him didn’t you?”

“Yeah, and? I don’t want to take him from you, I hate him, I just thought I’d warn you about him.”

“What’s there to warn me about, huh? I’ve been with him long enough to know him better than you would.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“He’s talked about you before in his sleep, talking about how you left him without warning and how you used him.”

“Oh please, you’re really going to believe that?”

“Yes, I am. I know just how kind Akira is, and just from speaking to you, I can tell what a terrible person you are. He clearly still has some trauma from being with you.”

“Whatever, I don’t even care anymore. He’s just going to cling to you and force you to watch anime or something. He’s a loser with no social skills whatsoever. I only joined this stupid club back in high school because he made me join it so he wouldn’t be lonely.”

“I’m done with this. I’m leaving.” Sakura said before bolting out of the room.

I’ll show her… Things are about to get interesting.”

Sakura went back to Akira and wrapped her arms around his.

“Hey, I’m trying to play a game here. Everything alright?” Akira asked, only half paying attention to her.

“Yep, everything’s just fine. Just showering you with my love and affection like usual.”

“Bro, what? What even is happening right now?” Mei asked.

“Do you have a problem with this or something?” Sakura asked threateningly.

“You know what, I’m just not going to say anything.” Mei said before walking away.

“Alright, that’s two games in a row you’ve won.” said Raymond.

“Just barely. I haven’t even practiced that recently. Things at home have been crazy man.” Akira replied.

“What, sitting around looking at anime girls all day?” joked Raymond.

“Nah, I’ve got work to do, and then by the time I get home I have to shower and take care of-” Akira stopped himself.

“Take care of what?”

“Sakura. Who else would I need to take care of?” Akira answered nervously.

“I don’t know, I thought maybe you had a harem to take care of or something.” Raymond joked.

“Yeah, I’ve got a bunch of magical maids and a living slime with rabbit ears to take care of after work.” Akira replied in a deadpan tone.

“Yeah, and I’ve got a dinosaur to feed at home.” Raymond responded.

“Well, I’m glad we’re all joking around and having fun,” Sakura said while giving Akira the death stare, “but what’s the point of a reunion if all you’re going to do is play games?”

“She’s got a point. We’re members of the anime club, not the video game club. Where’s the anime?” Akira asked?

“The old club president isn’t here yet.” Mei said, walking back over to the group.

“Seriously? He’s our old president and he can’t even show up on time?”

Almost as if by coincidence, the club president came running through the front door at that moment.

“Sorry I’m late, I had to deal with traffic” said the president.

“It’s a weekend. We all know there’s no traffic here.” Akira replied.

“What were you really doing?” asked Mei.

“I forgot the reunion was this weekend and had to drive over at the last minute.”

“Yep, that sounds more like it.” Mei muttered.

“So, how about that anime?” Sakura interjected.

“Who’s she? Akira’s girl?” asked the president.

“You can clearly see her holding onto him, you don’t need to ask.” Mei replied.

“You’re right, my bad. I’m going to put on some anime now.”

The old club president went over to the laptop that was hooked up to the projector and inserted a disc. A menu popped up on the wall the projector was facing showing some big robots and an episode selection.

“Oh good, a classic anime. Why this one specifically?” Akira asked.

“Well, we’re all older now, so I decided to pick an older anime.” the president replied.

“Wouldn’t old for us be what came out when we were kids though?” Mei questioned.

“I have no idea what’s happening.” Sakura murmured.

“Sure, but I wanted something that was old when we were in high school. Gotta hit that nostalgia somehow.”

“I’d be nostalgic for an anime that came out around that time, but ok.” Akira said.

“Isn’t your favorite anime one from before you were born?”

“We don’t need to talk about that, just pick an episode already.”

“Alright, alright, give me a second.”

The group watched a few episodes of a mech anime before sitting around chatting.

“So, are we just going to ignore the fact that Akira has a girlfriend now? What’s that all about? How’d you two meet?” asked one of the members.

“Oh, well actually we-” Akira started before being cut off.

“I’ll tell the story sweetie. One day in Akiba, I was looking at model kits from my favorite mecha anime, and I was having trouble deciding which one to get. I took a step back and bumped into Akira who just so happened to be holding a figure of a character from that series, so I asked him if I should pick the red robot or the purple one. We started chatting a bit and eventually moved to a nearby manga cafe where we talked some more over coffee. Things sort of just went from there. I gave him my number, he called me for coffee the next day, and the rest is history.” Sakura responded with confidence.

Akira knew the story was completely fabricated, but he also knew he couldn’t say anything about it.

“Seriously? I don’t buy it.” Mei said.

“Why not?” asked Sakura with a slight nervousness about her.

“Akira doesn’t drink coffee. He’s always talked about how much he hated it.”

“Well, tastes change. I had this canned coffee once that I thought was good and branched out from there.” Akira responded.

“Hmm, well if you two are really dating, then you wouldn’t mind kissing, right?” asked Isabella from the other side of the circle they were sitting in.

“Yeah, if you two really are dating, then kiss each other. Now. It has to be on the lips too, and you can’t hide it either. We all have to see.” piped in one of the other club members.

“Why are you all so enthusiastic about this? It’s really creepy.” Akira said.

“Just do it already. Unless you’re still a loser who can’t get girls.” Isabella snarked.

Akira turned to Sakura and locked eyes with her. She nodded her head, knowing there was no other way out of this situation.

The two brought their faces closer. They could both feel the warm breath of the other on their faces. Sakura rested her right hand on Akira’s cheek and brought him even closer. Akira was nervous, but he knew he had to commit at this point. The two closed their eyes and pressed their lips against each other. They held their position for a few seconds and then slowly pulled back.

“Yeah! He really did it!” cheered a few of the guys.

“Well, guess he isn’t as much of a loser as I thought.” Isabella muttered.

A shock pulsed through Sakura’s head before quickly fading.

“Ah, I’ve got a really bad headache. I think I need to lay down. Can we start heading back soon? Please?” asked a dazed Sakura.

“Yeah, of course. Hey, I’m really sorry to ruin the fun, but we’ve gotta get going. It was good seeing you all again. Well, most of you. Later.” Akira announced.

“Later nerd.” said Mei.

“Akira’s gonna go get some. Be safe lovers!” cheered some guys in a joking manner.

Akira and Sakura left the building and made their way back to their hotel. Akira knew it was dangerous to be walking back at night, but there was still enough light out that they’d be fine.

Sakura was holding her head and started stumbling a bit. She lost her balance and fell towards the street, but Akira managed to catch her.

“Woah, you ok? You should be a bit more careful.”

“Sorry, this headache is killing me. I’m getting really dizzy. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

“Was it because I kissed you? I’m sorry about that, they really pressured us into it.” Akira said blushing.

“No, that’s not it. Besides, I didn’t mind giving you my first kiss.” Sakura responded blushing. She stumbled a bit and fell into Akira’s arms.

“You can’t walk back like this. Want me to call my parents to pick us up or something?”

“No, I don’t want to bother them. Just, hold my hand and I’ll try my best to walk there.”

“No way, I’m not going to risk you getting hurt. It’s just your head that hurts, right? You can still use your arms?”

“Yeah, why?”

Akira squatted down and held his arms behind his back.

“Get on. It’s not too far of a walk, so I’ll just carry you on my back. You can close your eyes so your headache doesn’t get worse.”

“Are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you.” Sakura said, worried.

“Don’t worry about me. It doesn’t matter how hurt I get, as long as you’re safe.” Akira said, turning around to smile at Sakura.

“O-ok then. Thank you.”

Sakura climbed onto Akira’s back and the two set off for the hotel once more.

Upon entering the hotel room, Akira gently laid Sakura on the bed to rest.

“Thank you again for carrying me Master. I really appreciate it.”

“Are you hungry? We didn’t really eat anything today other than some curry and a few cookies, but that was a long time ago. I can run and get food for us. It’s a short walk from here.”

“Yeah, maybe eating will help out a bit. I don’t care what it is, just whatever you’re having.” Sakura said, holding her head.

“Alright, I’ll be back in a few minutes. Don’t exert yourself too much. I don’t want you to end up hurting yourself.”

“You’re too kind. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” Sakura said, flashing a smile.

Akira left the room and walked to the nearest fast food restaurant, which also happened to be his favorite.

He ordered two double cheeseburgers with curly fries and large sodas. It was a bit awkward to carry it all back to the hotel, but since it wasn’t that far of a walk, he managed to do it.

After fumbling with the room key for a few seconds, Akira managed to get the door open and stepped inside.

“Sakura, I’m back with food.” he said as he set it down to sort through.

“Took you long enough.” said a female voice Akira didn’t recognize.

“Huh? Who said that?” Akira said.

A tiny humanoid creature with large wings flew straight towards Akira, stopping mere centimeters in front of his face before placing her hands on her hips.

“I said, it took you long enough. I swear, you two are impossible to deal with.” said the creature.

“What the heck are you?” Akira asked, both a little confused and scared.

“What does it look like I am to you? I’m CLEARLY a fairy. Oh, and just so we can get this out of the way, my name’s Tsubaki. Pleasure to finally meet you in person, Akira.” replied the fairy, now known to be named Tsubaki.
