Chapter 49:

Chapter 46: Trying to Kill Me

Executive Powers

In the stands, Polk shifted her cocky smile into a dumbstruck stare as Davis’s body held Jackson’s fist in place.

“That’s…that’s impossible!” she whispered. “Even if Davis could equal Jackson’s strength at the start of the fight, there’s no way she should be able to match her power now that Jackson’s using Trail of Tears on herself!”

Jackson looked to her hand as Davis’s nails pierced into the back of her palm.

“Was this meant to unsettle me?” She snorted, then drew back her other hand. “You’ll have to try a lot harder than that!”

She threw a second punch, but Davis’s body caught hold of it once again.

“From what I can tell,” Jackson said, contorting her frown into a cruel smirk, “I’d say you don’t have any more arms left to block with!”

Jackson slammed her head forward, colliding it into Davis’s skull and knocking her back.

“Don’t forget,” Davis’s spirit snarled from above, “this fight is two on one!”

Davis chopped her hand down onto the top of Jackson’s head, rattling her brain. Jackson gritted her teeth, then drew back her head and delivered another headbutt, causing Davis’s spirit to scrunch up her face in a mix of anguish and fury.

“You mindless brute!”

Again and again, Davis struck at Jackson from behind as she continued slamming her head into Davis’s skull. The two bitter warriors kept on going for over a minute without any signs of slowing down.

But then, for just a moment, Jackson stumbled ever so slightly under the weight of Davis’s latest attack.

Spotting Jackson’s misstep, Davis’s astral form shot herself down, sweeping Jackson’s legs from under her and bringing her to the ground. Jackson started to rise, but Davis stomped down onto Jackson’s skull, slamming her face into the dirt. Jackson again tried to get up, but Davis slammed her foot back down onto her head.

“Just! Stay! Down!” Davis screeched as she repeatedly smashed Jackson down into the ground.

Davis breathed hard, backing herself away as she noticed a thick of pool forming underneath Jackson’s body.

She wiped a band of spectral sweat from her forehead, then stepped back into her physical form, nearly toppling over herself as she took control of her haggard body. She brought a hand to her head, feeling the terrible migraine from all the headbutts Jackson had given her.

Davis turned around, making her way to the arena’s exit without bothering to wait on Taft’s official call of the match. She didn’t know Jackson was dead or not, but she knew for a fact Jackson wouldn’t be getting up after taking that much of a beating.

And indeed, every member of the audience was utterly convinced that the match was over…

…everyone, except for those that knew Jackson best.

“Trying to kill me, Ms. Davis?”

Davis froze as a bloody hand wrapped itself around her shoulder. She turned around, her eyes agape as she took in the image of Jackson standing before her. Her face was covered deep with blood, her nose was horribly broken…and a terrible, vile smile seared itself across her badly bruised lips.

“But,” Jackson snarled, “I will kill you first!”
