Chapter 4:
The Man on The Roof
The night was beginning to show its effects as the full moon was shining brightly in the sky, and the crickets were doing their job at their full competence, and even the gods would agree that something was certainly devilish about the night.
In a dark alley, now rarely entered or exited, two young souls, rich in their newfound feeling of love, were holding hands and looking deeply into each other's eyes, mesmerised and hypnotised.
The boy, a seventeen-year-old, brought his lips closer to hers, closed his eyes, and was about to taste hers when he stopped and eventually settled them at her cheeks. When the girl felt his lips on her cheeks, she immediately opened her eyes, surprised. She left his hands, folded hers, and asked him in a straight, forward tone, "Hmm?"
The boy understood her question, even with her lack of words, but he felt too shy to give any answer to her. His cheeks and ears had already reddened to hide his obvious embarrassment. He hid his face with his hand and turned his face downward.
Annoyed by his expression, the girl came closer and pressed her lips against his, which startled the boy a little. He backed down as if in perplexity, hitting his head against the wall.
"See! It was that easy. You are such a coward, Askhay! I can't believe you try to act so tough in class, and you can't even bring yourself to kiss your girlfriend."
The boy, Akshay, still perplexed, bit his lips and replied haughtily, "I don't try to act tough. I am tough. If it were something about fighting some boys, I would."
To his proclamation, she hid her mouth with her hands and laughed.
"Huh! You think I am lying. Just tell me who you want to beat." he clenched his fists and continued, "I can easily knock down a person or two at the same time."
"Hey! Now that's too much. You are now bluffing, saying that you can knock two people at a time."
"Why do you think I am lying?" he came closer to her and continued, "I am strong."
"Wow! That's so cool. You are so... Normal. Unlike us, ain't I right, Elinson?"
A whisper cracked in their ears. A silent chill ran down their spine. They immediately turned to their left and noticed two men draped in black. The immense darkness in the alley hid their faces, but the light from the sign of the "Gupta Electronics" across the empty road illuminated their body.
There were two men fully dressed in black with emerald Christian-cross pendants across their chests.
As Akshay was wondering about their identities and how they appeared in the scenes out of thin air, those two men came a little closer to them, making their faces more visible. He noticed those men were both bourbon colored but slightly different from each other. One's facial features looked Indian, but the other man looked foreign. His facial structure and hairstyle implied he was of African descent.
Without a further adieu, Akshay collected himself and asked them fiercely, "Who are you? Where did you two clowns come from?"
That Indian man looked upset at his question as he replied, "Clowns, huh! Bullshit!" he took a deep breath, practised a smile or two, and continued in more formal language. "Please allow us to introduce ourselves. Oh- just kidding! We are not teenagers!"
And he straight jumped at Akshay with a swift force, before he realised he was holding Akshay's neck in his hand. As he tried to hold him up in the air, Akshay took his hands up in the air and attacked him with his elbow, but there was no reaction, as if he suffered no pain.
"We're a little different, kid. Or.. maybe not?"
In the meantime, his girlfriend was tightly holding him, trying to resist his lifting up.
The other man only looked from behind, not providing any active or passive support, but when you looked from afar, it did look like this Indian man needed any support.
She hit his arms and legs repeatedly, but he didn't budge an inch and, rather in a calm voice, replied, "Miss, don't bother with this little cunt. He isn't worth your time. Please let us handle it."
Tears fell from her troubled eyes. As her tears fell on the road, Akshay became filled with rage, his eyes- bloody red and ferocious- tracked that man’s face and then brought his legs up in the air, wrapped them around his arm.
“That’s some cool trick, kid. You should’ve tried gymnastics in your life.” The hooded man commented.
To his surprise, the boy tightened his grip, and at first that good man felt no pain, and then suddenly he felt an itch. This was bringing fear into his eyes; this was a feeling he hadn’t felt for decades.
Suddenly, he noticed that he couldn't press his neck anymore, as if it had been robbed of its energy.
When his arm loosened, Akshay twisted his arm, which brought his arm which brought quite a lot of pain, and he grieved his pain
“Run, Annaaya, Run! Runnnn!”
As soon as he heard his voice, she decided to run.
Akshay decides to leave the road and run away from them. But the second man from behind came in lightning speed and placed a hard punch on his face, unwrapping him in the process, throwing his body, coming crashing down on the road.
The hit was so intense that Akshay’s nose broke when it got hit. Now, his full face was muddled with blood, disfigured because of his broken nose. The immense pain came crashing down on him. The crash also began to affect his shoulders and back. He could move an inch anymore. His eyes were now downcast, lacking any life in them.
That’s when he noticed the black shadow looming over him. With whatever energy was left in him, he looked up slowly.
Those two men were standing there looking at him like the angels of death.
“Vacations are over, child. Welcome to the Arcane Dominion Corps. Let’s get business. Where is Seven?”
