Chapter 5:
From Tied Down to Tied Up
Jack and Bridget had agreed to meet at the lighthouse by the river for their date. She was intrigued by the idea of a walk with him. The public setting was a nice touch, on Jack’s part. She pulled into the parking lot and looked around. From a distance, she saw him walking her way, and exited the car to greet him.
“Hey there,” she said, sheepishly.
“Hey yourself,” he winked at her and she saw a little smirk come across his face.
“Shall we?” She gestured toward the walking trail that took a winding path down by the river. It was a beautiful day, and the melting snow along the trail gave a satisfying crunch beneath their feet as they walked along in silence for a moment.
“So, you’re a nurse, what’s that like?” he stammered, trying to break through the awkwardness.
“It’s exhausting, and rewarding, and sometimes heart-breaking.” she muttered the last part under her breath, not really wanting to elaborate on the sad parts right away. Oversharing on the first date is typically frowned upon, she thought. “How’s the construction life? She shot back a little too quickly, if an effort to change the subject.
“It’s mostly exhausting, rarely rewarding, and thankfully, never heart-breaking” he said, glancing sideways to catch her reaction. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to hear that last part.
To his relief, she giggled a bit and seemed to relax her shoulders. The pair continued along the trail, chatting away, when they came to a bridge. Without really thinking, both of them hiked up the little hill to the bridge and began crossing the river. Conversation flowing freely now between them, as they talked about their family, their past relationships, wherever the conversation took them.
“I saw on your profile you mentioned BDSM, does that mean what I think it means?” she asked shyly, almost whispering.
“Yeah, I’m a Dom. I like to be upfront about all that. Is that a problem?” he seemed a little concerned.
“Not at all, I’m very much a Sub.” she said with a little mischievous smile.
He grinned from ear to ear, his mind suddenly flooded with the possibilities with this beautiful creature before him.
Before she knew it, they had walked all the way across the bridge and back again. She saw her car in the lighthouse parking lot and looked at her watch. They had been walking and talking for 3 hours.
“Thanks for the walk, I’d like to do this again sometime.” Jack smiled at her as she opened her car door.
“Absolutely!” she said, smiling back at him. This was the best date she had ever been on. She wasn’t about to let this one slip through her fingers. “Do you live around here? Can I give you a lift?” She asked, remembering that he had walked over for the date.
“I do live close by but I won’t say no to a ride after that long walk we just had” he rubbed the back of his neck and glanced at her with a smile.
“Well, get in then.” she invited, unlocking the passenger door so he could enter.
Jack directed her though the streets of downtown toward his apartment. When they arrived, Jack looked over at her.
“Thanks so much, I had a great time. We will do this again.” he looked away for a second before looking back at her. “Could I give you a kiss?” he muttered sheepishly. She smiled and nodded. He leaned over and pecked her on the cheek, his face turning a bright shade of red as he did it.
“Bye!” He got out of the car and went inside. As she drove back to her apartment, Bridget couldn’t stop smiling. That was an incredible date. She was not exactly looking for a relationship right now, but she may have just found one. This guy was more than a one night stand. He might be the real thing.
