Chapter 7:
Confusion and Confession
The rooftop was filled with the distant sound of students talking below, their voices buzzing together like bees in a hive. The wind moved gently across the open space, carrying a strange mix of warm and cool air.
Sitting nearby was Sean, casually drinking a can of orange juice while staring at the label like he had just discovered something strange.
“Damn… this orange doesn’t taste like apple,” he said with a completely serious face. I sighed and rubbed my forehead. “Sean, your jokes are not funny.”
“Hey! I’m not unfunny!” he shouted immediately. “Be glad you have someone as goated as me as your friend.”
Yeah… that “goated” friend of mine had completely ruined my day yesterday. “Sean,” I said seriously.
His attention shifted toward me as he lowered the juice can. “Huh? Yeah?” “You know you made Yuki upset yesterday, right? And why the hell did you lie!?”
He jumped slightly before scratching the back of his head and letting out a nervous laugh. “Hehe… it was just a joke.”
A joke. Yeah, that “joke” made Yuki angry enough that I didn’t even get dinner yesterday.
Sean tilted his head while thinking for a moment. “So… I should apologize, right?” “Of course you should,” I replied without hesitation.
The wind moved across the rooftop again as Sean suddenly looked curious. “Damn Kai… how the hell did you even get those girls?” he asked.
I thought about it for a moment before answering honestly. “Umm… how should I say this… they used to be my pets.” Sean froze completely.
Then his face slowly twisted into disgust. “Eww… pets?? I didn’t know you were into those kinds of things!” “What!? That’s not what I meant!” I shouted quickly. " Hear me out! ".
But Sean had already turned around and started running. “Nah, I’m not hearing you out!” “WAIT! Sean! Come back!” I yelled as I chased after him across the rooftop.
Sean ran straight into the hallway with me following behind him. “Hey! Wait! Listen!” I shouted while trying to catch up, but he kept running.
“Nah uh!” he replied while laughing. Then suddenly I stopped running. Why? Because standing right in front of Sean was our teacher.
Mr. Erikson. Sean didn’t notice him in time and ran straight into him.
“The hell are you two doing?” Mr. Erikson said with a deep voice. “Didn’t I tell you not to run in the hallway?” Sean immediately started sweating. “Good morning, sir.”
Mr. Erikson stared at him with an unimpressed expression. “Idiot. It’s afternoon. Now explain why you two are running around like idiots.” I slowly tried to step away and escape the situation.
“Kai!!” Mr. Erikson shouted. “You aren’t fooling anyone. Come here.”And just like that, I was dragged into this mess too. “Sir, it was…” I tried to explain.
“Shut up. No excuses,” he interrupted. “Both of you will stay after school and clean the school toilets.” My soul left my body.
I was already in trouble with Yuki, and if I came home late she might start overthinking things and assume I ran away to another world or something. “Sean, I hate you,” I whispered.
Sean just smiled proudly like he had accomplished something. “Relax,” he said confidently. “Let me handle this.”
Mr. Erikson left, leaving us standing there in silence. After school ended, Sean and I were stuck cleaning the school toilets.
“Hey look, a shi...” Sean suddenly said. “I don’t want to know,” I interrupted immediately. “Just clean it.”
“No no, look at the color. It’s different...” “I SAID I DON’T WANT TO KNOW.”
He kept talking about random disgusting things while I tried my best to finish cleaning as fast as possible. Finally, after an entire hour, we were done.
“Finally! Finally! I can breathe!” Sean shouted while stretching his arms. It was finally time to go home.
Yuki and Kaoe had said earlier that today was their day off from the library, which meant they were probably back at the apartment.
“Hey Kai,” Sean said while walking beside me. “Let me come too. I gotta apologize to Yuki.”
I thought about it for a moment before nodding. “Alright. Let’s go.” Then suddenly Sean stopped walking.
“Wait! I should buy a gift for her,” he said with excitement. “Any recommendations?” I thought for a moment. “Umm… Yuki really likes cakes.”
That was enough to make his eyes light up.“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go buy some cakes!”
We immediately headed toward the bakery. When we entered, Ester was standing behind the counter.
“Welcome....huh? It’s you two,” she said after noticing us. “Yo,” I greeted casually.
Meanwhile Sean suddenly changed his entire personality. “Ester! Hey! Looking cute as always!” he said with confidence.
Ester looked completely unimpressed. “Yeah, I know. What do you want?” she replied coldly.
“Huh? Why are you acting so rudely?” Sean said dramatically while pretending to cry.
“Ignore him,” I told Ester. “Can you suggest a cake for Yuki?” In the background Sean continued yapping nonsense.
Ester thought for a moment. “I remember you said she liked the strawberry cake. Why don’t you buy that again?” “That sounds good,” I replied.
Sean immediately stepped forward. “Alright, pack one.” “You’re broke, just in case you forgot,” I reminded him.
“Huh!? You didn’t have to remind me!” he complained. “And it was my idea!” “Yeah, yeah.”
Ester returned with the cake box and handed it to me. “Here. And take this too.” She gave me a small box of cupcakes. “It’s for Kaoe.”
I smiled a little. “Thanks. I’ll give it to her.”After that we left the bakery. Sean kept talking non-stop while we walked.
“Now just watch how I’ll handle everything,” he said confidently. This guy really never stopped talking. Finally we reached the apartment.
“Hey Yuki! Kaoe! Open the door!” I called out. There was no response for a few moments. Then suddenly BOOM! A loud sound came from inside.
Sean looked at me nervously. “Are you sure this is your apartment?” The door slowly opened. And what I saw inside was completely unexpected. “What!?”
