Chapter 5:
Deadly Parasite
"Wasn't Miss Shinomiya supposed to be with you Junko?" Yuzuha let's out, pulling herself out of the long-held hug. "A minute ago she went to the bathrooms to look for you. Didn't you guys meet?"
Junko's face remained ever silent. Not even a slight movement from the asked question could be seem in place. It was as if what stood before Yuzuha was but an empty shell of her long gone childhood friend.
"Who is Miss Shinomiya, Yuzuha?" Junko uttered out quietly, a little soft-spoken than her usual self.
Yuzuha was awestruck. How could Junko be playing around at a time like this. Yuzuha knew her friend to be a straightforward character, not one inclined to many jokes. So hearing this, at a crucial time like now, felt really off from who she knew her friend to be.
Without realizing it, Yuzuha's hands flew on Hayata's shoulders, gripping intensely, as if she wanted to tear them apart she loudly started shouting:
"Junko! Are you feeling alright?" Moving her hand to Hayata's forehead, she added, "Did you get hurt in the head by anything? Don't tell me the fear got to you that deep?" But all in all Junko Hayata remained silent. Staring at Junko's cold eyes, Yuzuha slowly calmed herself down, saying:
"Miss Shinomiya. Our homeroom teacher. Do you remember now?"
Seeing that nothing was working, Yuzuha decided to turn for help from her classmates. She turned to Toshi Mizuki, trying to get her to explain it to Junko so as to stop her little joking endeavor. But Toshi brushed it aside, as she as well softly asked:
"Who is Miss Shinomiya? A character in one of your plays perhaps?"
Yuzuha was dumbfounded. She couldn't understand what she was hearing. Were they both playing with her, was this all some kind of revenge mortif for all the times she had played pranks on them. Or it might actually be that they don't remember at all.
Turning to Ryuunosuke to confirm it, Ryuunosuke sighed, his head low and softly spoke:
"Why would you bring our babysitter into one of your class conversations? This is so like you Yuzuha. You never really change do you?" With this Yuzuha's mind flew into a panic.
'Wait what? What are they talking about? Plays? Baby-sitters? What is going on?' In honesty, Miss Shinomiya had a deeper background connected to both Ryuunosuke and Yuzuha. She was a distant cousin to their mother, and the only person their mother trusted with their well-being, hence why she used to babysit them. But that is from a far while back. It's being ten years since then. 'Why would Ryuunosuke bring it up now?' She pondered for a moment before adding:
'Don't they not know Miss Shinomiya is a philosophy major?'
Wait, what is she saying herself? Why would she say that? Everyone knows Miss Shinomiya is their aunt, their mother's third cousin. To some extent, their babysitter.
'Wait. What was I to argue about? What did Kentarou and Mizuki say to make me argue? Oh! It was about Miss Shinomiya.' Yuzuha giggled under her breath like a madman. 'Yes, Miss Shinomiya.' And then as if in understanding, she asks herself:
"Who is Miss Shinomiya?"
Without any more disturbances floating all over her head, she finally stared ahead. Meeting the cold silent gaze of her childhood friend - Junko Hayata. Moving her left elbow above her chest area, Junko gestured for Yuzuha to take her arm. Brushing aside the confusion still lingering in her head, Yuzuha put her right arm to interlock with Junko's, as they started walking towards their seats.
On the far side of the classroom, the right far corner, Ryuunosuke was assisting Toshi Mizuki in the organizing of their dirtied classroom, with the help of some other class 3-b's students. The class was already filling up with its original number. Many taking their seats, and other simply shifting to gossip their lucrative hobbies with their friends.
The front door slid open and an elegant dressed man walked in. He gestured for the students to take their seats and remain quiet. His hair as auburn as the season of early March. He had a striking appearance comparable to a model. He was tall, seemed athletic, and dressed for his role. He also seemed to be well educated in all aspects of not only ethics. This teacher was fairly popular with the students. His name was Sakaji Kuruizawa.
While walking alongside the rows of students' seats, Yuzuha asked Hayata a strange question:
"Did you grow taller, Junko?"
Ryuunosuke had just finished with helping out the class's reorganizations and formally took his seat at the front of the class, on first column first row. Same with Toshi Mizuki. Hers was on the fifth column first row. They were leading students in both studies and extracurricular activities. So as leaders in this society, they had to act like one as well.
Sixth column third row and seventh column third row is where both Hayata and Yuzuha seated. And on the back of the class, to the far right side of the first row, was where Seiichin Minari was located. Other students filled the empty seats as well. All moving to their respective seating positions, and staying quiet. In total of five rows and six columns, that means thirty students from class 3-b were calmly seated.
At the front of the classroom, on the large whiteboard, Mr Kuruizawa had already written down the date, and the study of the day. Gazing at the large body of students ahead of him, he welcomed himself by stating his name and what he would be teaching them for the day.
Moving his hands over his front table desk, he picked up and read the register. As well as confirming some few minor details here and there from the class's president - Toshi Mizuki.
After addressing the class, he kindly asked the class to participate in a read-along on a historical set book, and the writing of a few essays. In which he presented the book Animal Farm, by critically acclaimed American author and storyteller, George Orwell.
