Chapter 9:

Club, start!

The tsundere in my class secretly loves me!

"My name's Ojino Rin. It's nice to make your acquaintance, everyone!" Rin bent her knees as her gaze met the floor. The gracious bow she presented was a telltale sign of her way of life. To be so prim and proper, or for lack of a better word, by the book,  must have been draining. Did she really need to act so formal around this newfound club?

"Cmon Ojino-senpai, loosen up a little. We're all vigilantes of romance here. Lift your head, there's no need to be so formal." The petite girl who stood before her extended her arm in the face of that prestigious bow. She bore a sash that outlined 'Club president.' In response to Reina's warm welcome, Rin raised her head before extending a hand of her own. The two placed their hand in the other's palm- a handshake.

Reina had done it, after all that hard work she-no, they had done it. Futoshi, Reina, Haruto, and now Rin had finally gotten the confession club recognised as an official club. This was the beginning of the confession club, a new dawn. What lay in wait for this group of misfits? No one knew, but what all of them understood was this: at least for right now, this moment was worth celebrating.

Futoshi furrowed his brow at Reina's lax attitude. If she was the brawn, he was the brains. It probably wasn't crazy to say he was the one who had contributed the most to getting this club officially recognised, so seeing Reina act all high and mighty must have soured his mood.

"Sakura-san, you know that name, you know... it doesn't work now that we're an official club, right?" In all fairness, he wasn't wrong. Now that they were official,  calling themselves 'vigilantes' came off as ignorant more than anything else. Reina gritted her teeth at Futoshi's sly- albeit true remark; whether she would listen was still up in the air, though. Knowing Reina, Futoshi already braced for what was coming.

"Shut it, Futoshi! Who are you to tell me how to run the club? That's not a very good way of saying thank you to your master, you know?" Are we really still doing this? On one hand, she calls me by name now, which is a nice change of pace; on the other, she's still as cruel and sharp-tongued. I can't win. To be honest, though, I've been getting used to it, so it doesn't bother me.

There was a hint of truth hidden in Futoshi's thoughts. On one hand, he was relieved he had finally "levelled up" from being renowned as Reina's dog; on the other hand, he couldn't help feel a bit conflicted at the drastic change in her mood the last day or two. From his point of view, it was like the petite girl who was always directing her anger towards him every day before this had died and come back as a new person-

At least for everyone else that is.

Futoshi extended his foot on the table in front of him as he gritted his teeth at Reina's usual harsh demeanour. Who was she to treat him as such, after all he did? "Yeah, well, it's not a good name. And anyway, why are you still treating me like I'm your servant, huh?" In retaliation for Futoshi's disobedience, Reina's gaze narrowed as she shot daggers towards him. As if she were copying him to rival his effort at a power play, Reina extended a leg of her own before slamming her shoe atop the table in front of her. Who did he think he was?

"-You got any better ideas than 'Mr. Popular'?" A wry smile tugged at Reina's lips . She was the one in charge of the club, so why shouldn't she call the shots? Seeing how she smirked at her own comeback, Futoshi's brow furrowed before letting out a scoff.

"At least I'm not a romance-obsessed weirdo!" As if they were playing a game of 'who could one-up the other?' Futoshi let out a wry grin of his own-

"Ugh, come on, you two, that's enough. You argue like you're married," Scratching the back of his head, Haruto exclaimed as much. The girl who was next to him, Rin, placed a hand over her mouth at witnessing such tomfoolery.

"...ppph. Is that what this is? How infor-pph, sorry.."Rin's cheeks flushed before a waterfall-no, a single drop ran down her face. Not from suffering or anguish, it was just the scene in front of her that called for such emotion. She couldn't contain how amusing the two were. This was the total opposite of what she was used to, with no expectations on how she should carry herself. Not at all. She could finally, if only for a while, let her hair down.

Wiping away the tear that had formed with the back of her hand, Rin took a deep inhale. "I..I'm good now." In that situation, who wouldn't laugh? It was like a Tiger pitted against a dragon. That's the best way you could explain those to. Seeing the way they rivalled each other in pretty much every way made for a nice dynamic.  It was never a dull moment when those two were around, that's for sure.

Hearing Haruto's joking remark, Reina's cheeks flushed before she averted her gaze elsewhere in the room. "Us? M-me and him? Are you crazy? Have you seen him? He's a sleazebag, a perv, an Idiot! In fact, I wouldn't want to be caught dead marrying him." Reina threw all these shots in Futoshi's direction. Her cheeks puffed out. Futoshi scratched his cheek at all that was going on.

This little- I feel the same way, sure, but she didn't have to call me a perv! Futoshi gritted his teeth in the face of such insults. His fists clenched."Yeah, and I think you're a romance-obsessed weirdo who has nothing going for them but good grades." Futoshi huffed. His gaze met Haruto, who was standing next to Rin.

"Haruto... you're such a fool", Futoshi pointed toward Rin, who was sitting on the table in the middle of the room, trying to keep it together. "Stop laughing!" Futoshi was throwing shade to whoever wanted it. Something was awry. He turned back to Reina before letting out an exasperated sigh.

"You got  anything to say, pipsqueak?" Reina pushed her fingers together as her brow furrowed. She didn't like his tone, sure. She was too busy processing what was said, so she didn't press the issue.

Seeing this, Futoshi shrugged his shoulders slightly. "Whatever", Reina, whose face had finally cooled down, folded her arms. "Yeah, it's not like I like him or anything!. He just helped me become official, nothing more, nothing less. Don't read too much into it."

Seeing that the conversation had finally reached a stalemate, Rin nodded, "So that's what's going on, hmm." Sussing out the situation, Rin cocked her head.

"Your dynamic is weird, though, you know that?" Rin's gaze honed in on the boy who stood opposite her- Futoshi. Their dynamic was weird. Why do all this for someone when you just get hailed insults in return? From a logical standpoint, it wasn't ethical. For the girl who couldn't understand her own feelings when it came to love, this was the most pressing issue. Why would someone put up with that?

As she was occupied in her own thoughts, Futoshi turned to Reina, who was still avoiding Futoshi at all costs. "Sakura-san, you coming round today? I'll do your favourite." In the face of his way of making up. Reina still wouldn't answer him. That is until...

"Call me Reina, stupid Idiot. If I'm allowed to call you Futoshi, you need to call me Reina. Calling me anything but would be seen as disrespecting your master!" Reina's fist clenched as she made such a declaration. From her point of view, it made sense. Futoshi scratched his cheek, and Reina's request. This was a big moment for him. It meant she at least finally acknowledged him for his efforts, although he wasn't sure about the 'master' part; he didn't want to bite off more than he could chew. A wry smile tugged at his lips at that outcome.

"Fine. Reina! Would you like to come round today? I'll make your favourite, so spare me your insults at least for now."

"Fine! Just stop talking weird, it's creepy, creepy, Futoshi!"
