Chapter 53:

Episode 52: The First Misunderstanding (Damien)

meet the bloodbriars

Damien stared at me for too long.

“…You’re quiet,” he said.

“…Yes.”

“…And you wear that everywhere?”

“…Yes.”

Black coat. Gloves. Mask.

Standard. Not helping either for him was my use of chains in my pants and also spiked boots too.

He leaned closer slightly.

“…Terry didn’t tell me she hired someone.”

“…Hired?”

“…You’re not exactly subtle.”

I blinked.

“…I’m a graphic designer.”

Silence.

“…You’re joking.”

“…No.”

Terry burst out laughing from across the room.

“Oh my god, Damien—he’s not a hitman or those phantomthorn cultists.”

“…He looks like one.”

“…He cries over fonts,” she added.

“…I do not cry.”

Pause.

“…Frequently and if it is, its cause of those stuff you read online that makes you weep for us homo sapiens” Terry corrected.

Damien stared at me again.

Then sighed.

“…That makes more sense.”

“…Does it?” I muttered.

“…No,” he admitted.

“…But I’m going with it.”
