The Work

Claire approaches first.

“…I need a logo revision,” she says.

I already have it done.

I hand her a flash drive.

She blinks.

“…You—when?”

“…Earlier.”

She stares at it like it’s a relic.

“…Beckett…”

“…It’s fine.”

Faye follows.

“…Poster layout?”

“…Sent to your email.”

“…You didn’t even ask for references.”

“…I didn’t need them.”

Silence.

Then—

“…He’s terrifying,” Bob mutters from behind her.

“…Efficient,” Faye corrects.

Terry joins in last.

“…Brand overhaul,” she says.

I slide a folder across the table.

Printed. Organized. Color-coded.

She flips through it slowly.

“…You did all of this… for free?”

“…Yes.”

“…Why?”

I pause.

“…You’re family.”

Silence again.

Heavier this time.

Damien exhales.

“…We’re never letting you go.”

“…I wasn’t planning to leave.”
