Chapter 81:
meet the bloodbriars
It’s subtle.
Almost unnoticeable.
But I notice everything.
We’re sitting together.
Quiet.
He’s thinking.
Too much.
I can tell.
I don’t intervene immediately.
I wait.
Then—
He moves.
Just slightly.
Closer.
His shoulder touches mine.
Pause.
“…Diana,” he says quietly.
“…Yes?”
“…I need…”
He stops.
That’s new.
“…Continue,” I say softly.
“…Help.”
Silence.
There it is.
I don’t react immediately.
Control includes restraint.
Then—
I place my hand over his.
“…Good,” I murmur.
He exhales.
“…Stay here,” I add.
“…Okay.”
No resistance.
No hesitation.
And that’s when I know—
He’s no longer just following structure.
He’s choosing it.
Choosing me.
