“…They think you’re a vampire.”

I say it casually.

Diana doesn’t look up from her book.

“…Do they?”

“…Yes.”

“…And?”

“…They’re not entirely wrong.”

She smirks slightly.

“…What else?”

“…Witch. Demon. Possibly immortal.”

“…Efficient.”

Pause.

“…You’re not correcting them.”

“…Why would I?”

She closes her book.

“…Fear creates distance,” she says calmly.
“…Distance prevents interference.”

“…Logical.”

“…And useful.”

I nod.

“…You approve?” she asks.

“…Yes.”

Pause.

“…Good.”

She reaches over.

Adjusts my mask slightly.

“…You benefit from it as well.”

“…I already avoid people.”

“…This ensures they avoid you first.”

…Fair.
