Chapter 21:

Family Discord Chats

side stories of the bloodbriars

The weekend was unusually busy for the Bloodbriars. Between baby showers, family dinners, and art projects, everyone was buzzing—except Beckett, who had spent most of the morning lurking quietly in his corner, soda in hand, dark chocolate at arm’s reach.

Then, a ping.

“Beck!”

Diana’s message flashed in the private family Discord server. Beckett exhaled softly, already anticipating her usual combination of teasing, bossiness, and affection.

Diana: “Get off your butt, my tall, dark, handsome prince. Family hangout in ten. And yes, I know your soda and chocolate stock is sufficient.”

Beckett typed a curt “meh”, and hit enter. A string of reactions followed—laughing emojis from his older sisters, hearts from Terry, and thumbs-ups from his cousins.

Mira: “He’s alive, we swear! Seen him? Nope. Typing? Barely.”

Lina: “Classic Beckett. Ghosting in plain sight.”

Beckett: “I exist. Quietly.”

Diana: “Quiet is good. But obedience is better. See you in ten minutes, prince.”

The family server erupted with playful banter. The twins, Peresphone and Hades, had already joined the chat from their iPads.

Peresphone: “Dad better not be hiding behind the fridge again. Or I will expose him.”
Hades: “Expose him? How? He’s invisible.”

Beckett smirked under his mask, fingers hovering over the keyboard. Diana, noticing his subtle smile, sent a black heart emoji.

The chat continued:

Cousin Faye posted a selfie with her new cat, captioned “Not as sneaky as Beckett .” and of course Diana sharing pics of their black cat and pet raven and crow.

Terry joked, “He’s probably designing a logo for some model training seminar while lurking.”

Beckett quietly uploaded a small, stylized ninja illustration of himself that had the family laughing out loud.

By the end of the hour, the family agreed: Beckett’s quiet presence, even virtually, was appreciated. Diana sent a final message:

Diana: “Good prince, your online obedience is noted. Now, finish your chocolate, and join the real hangout. Our twins are already plotting mischief without you.”

Beckett grinned behind his mask. Even in the chaos of the weekend, he felt included, valued, and quietly adored, all from the shadows.
