Chapter 2:
The God I Must Kill
“There is only one way…”
Yuui’s voice trembled beneath the roar of the storm.
Her fingers tightened around the hilt of her sword.
But she already knew—
Steel wasn’t enough.
Not against him.
Not against this.
She watched as more of her comrades fell—one after another, their lives snuffed out in an instant. Each death fed the storm above, the crimson cloud swelling further, growing heavier… hungrier.
At the center of it all—
Winter stood.
Unmoving.
Untouched.
His cold eyes showed no reaction as the blood of the fallen continued to rise, spiraling into the sky, feeding the monstrous cloud that rained death upon them.
Endless.
Merciless.
Yuui’s breath caught in her throat.
His power… it felt limitless.
“…No,” she whispered faintly.
Her eyes narrowed.
“…that’s not all.”
It wasn’t just blood.
It couldn’t be.
She forced herself to look closer—to understand.
And then—
She saw it.
“…Life…”
A realization struck her like lightning.
Winter wasn’t just controlling blood.
He was controlling what remained within it.
The essence of life itself.
He was bending it.
Twisting it.
Turning it into something that only brought death.
Yuui’s heart pounded.
For the first time since the battle began—
Something flickered within her.
“…Hope.”
“If Winter can control blood…” she thought, her breath unsteady, “then I can control the life force… the energy itself…”
Her pulse quickened.
She had seen it before.
Felt it.
The hidden current that flowed through all living things—
Ules.
The raw essence of life.
The invisible thread that connected every being to the world itself.
Winter was using blood as a conduit—corrupting that energy, turning life into death.
But if she could—
Reverse it.
Take that same energy…
And purify it—
Then maybe…
Just maybe—
She could stand against him.
“…It might work…”
The thought was fragile.
Dangerous.
Bordering on madness.
But there was no other choice.
Yuui closed her eyes.
The battlefield faded.
The screams dulled.
The rain… disappeared.
She took a slow, trembling breath—
And focused.
“…I can feel it…”
The air around her shifted.
Faint.
Weak.
But there.
The remnants of life lingered within the fallen—embers that had yet to fully fade. Tiny fragments of existence, flickering like dying flames in the darkness.
Winter hadn’t noticed.
He was too focused on the storm he had created.
But she didn’t have much time.
Yuui slowly lowered her hand, hovering it above the body of a fallen comrade.
Her fingers trembled.
“…I…”
For a moment—
She hesitated.
These weren’t just bodies.
They were people.
Friends.
“…I’m sorry…”
Her voice came out as a whisper.
Soft.
Breaking.
But she pushed forward.
Reaching—not with her hand—
But with her mind.
“…Come to me…”
She felt it.
The ules.
The faint flow of energy surrounding her, drifting between the dead and the dying. It resisted at first—fragile, uncertain—but then…
It answered.
The air began to hum.
Softly.
Then louder.
The energy stirred, rising from the fallen, gathering around her like threads of light unseen by the naked eye.
“…!”
Yuui’s breath caught.
It was working.
The ules flowed into her.
Slowly.
Then all at once.
Her body trembled as the energy filled her, a strange vibration coursing through every part of her being. It was overwhelming—pure, radiant life force, untouched by the corruption that stained the battlefield.
Warm.
Bright.
Alive.
“…This is…!”
Her knees nearly gave out.
But she held on.
The energy swirled around her, wild and unrefined. It threatened to scatter, to collapse under its own weight—
But Yuui clenched her fist.
“No… stay with me…!”
She focused.
Guided it.
Forced it into shape.
The ules responded to her will, gathering, condensing, forming something tangible within her grasp.
Something powerful.
Something pure.
Something that could—
Stand against Winter.
Just as Winter’s blood cloud churned above the battlefield—
Yuui’s answer took form.
A second cloud appeared in the sky.
Not crimson.
Not twisted.
But radiant.
Pure.
A shimmering mass of light gathered above her, glowing softly like the essence of life itself. It pulsed gently—steady, rhythmic—beating in perfect sync with her heart.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
“…!”
Yuui gasped as more ules flowed into her, drawn from the fallen and the dying alike. She wove them together, binding their life force into something whole—something unbroken.
Something alive.
The light grew brighter.
Stronger.
Her knees buckled.
“Agh—!”
The weight of it pressed down on her, threatening to crush her where she stood. Her body trembled violently under the strain, but she clenched her teeth and held on.
“I won’t… let go…!”
The air shifted.
Changed.
And then—
She felt it.
Winter’s gaze.
Cold.
Sharp.
Focused entirely on her.
Yuui slowly lifted her head.
Her eyes met his.
For a brief moment—
The battlefield fell silent.
“This ends now,” she said.
Her voice was steady.
Unshaken.
Above her, the radiant cloud pulsed in response, its light intensifying as if acknowledging her will.
For the first time—
Winter faltered.
It was small.
Almost imperceptible.
But it was there.
A slight narrowing of his eyes.
A faint shadow crossing his expression.
Uncertainty.
“…Interesting,” he murmured.
Yuui didn’t hesitate.
With a sharp breath, she thrust her hand forward.
“—!”
A beam of pure energy erupted from her.
Blinding.
Brilliant.
It tore through the air with a violent surge, the space around it crackling and distorting under the sheer force of its existence. It was no longer just light—
It was life itself.
Condensed.
Weaponized.
A final answer forged from the souls of those who had fallen.
Yuui’s body shook as the energy poured out of her.
But she didn’t stop.
Couldn’t stop.
“Go…!”
Her voice broke into a shout as she pushed everything forward.
Everything she had.
Everything they had.
Winter’s eyes sharpened.
He moved instantly.
“Blood Stream.”
His voice rang out—cold. Absolute.
The blood cloud above him responded.
It trembled—
Then surged.
The crimson mass collapsed inward before exploding forward into a thick, flowing stream of blood. It twisted through the air like a living thing, dark and violent, racing toward Yuui’s attack with terrifying speed.
With a flick of his wrist—
He guided it.
The stream split into tendrils, stretching outward like the fangs of a predator, aiming directly for the incoming beam.
The two forces collided.
For a single moment—
It looked like equilibrium.
Like the clash might end in stalemate.
But then—
“…!”
The first droplets touched the light—
And vanished.
Gone.
Erased.
The blood didn’t resist.
It didn’t push back.
It simply—
Disappeared.
Yuui’s energy consumed it completely, the purity of her attack disintegrating each drop on contact. Steam hissed into the air as the crimson was reduced to nothing, unable to withstand the overwhelming force.
Winter’s eyes widened.
“…Impossible.”
The stream collapsed.
Bit by bit.
Devoured.
Yuui’s beam didn’t slow.
Didn’t weaken.
It grew stronger.
Brighter.
As if every trace of resistance only fueled it further.
“No…!”
For the first time—
Winter reacted.
His calm broke.
Just for a fraction of a second.
He shifted, attempting to move—attempting to escape the full force of the attack.
But it was too late.
The beam surged forward.
Relentless.
Unforgiving.
And in the next instant—
It tore through the space where he stood.
“—!”
A sharp, searing pain cut through Winter’s side.
His body jerked violently as the impact struck him, the force sending him staggering backward. His hand shot to his wound, clutching it tightly as his balance faltered.
For the first time—
Winter had been hit.
