Chapter 2:
The Beverley Killings: Dead Girls Don't Graduate
“So, what do you think of the place? Is it cool? What about the teacher? She seems strict, but she looks funny. Is it hot in here? It’s too stuffy. Hey, what do you think of our classmates?”
I buried my face into the desk my ears bleeding from listening to the constant whispers of Emily. Her voice was laced with an underlying energy that seemed to suck the small specks of life out of me. Her voice was annoying. The way her eyes gleamed and lips curved on the edges ever so slightly, to the way she taps her pen with a hint of nervousness. Everything about her annoyed me.
And that made me more curious of her. People that annoyed me usually were cut off immediately by me. I made sure I never stuck about for the drama that would unfold, yet I couldn’t bring myself to shut her out. There was something about her, the way she carries herself that seemed to draw me in.
I can’t figure her out. What’s her game?
I thought staring at her. She was hunched over, scribbling furiously away at her notes, her tongue slightly out as she concentrated with deep effort. Her pupil moved slightly to stare at me as she gave me a quick smile before rushing back to finishing her notes. I looked up at my teacher.
She’s quite odd. Why is she so…friendly?
Her hair was neatly placed into a bun, blonde streaked with strips of dark red, her eyes shimmering blue and her dress formal yet comfortable. Her features were quite…attractive.
The curves were perfectly shaped, fitting into the dress to accentuate to the point between seduction and beauty. She wrote away on the blackboard, her hand moving skilfully across, every step and turn and twist of her was filled with elegance.
Ms Peterson. She seems awfully nice. Not like the other teachers I knew. And certainly, doesn’t seem like The Director. What’s her game?
Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring.
“Alright class, lesson is over. You will be directed to your dorms. As there are fifteen of you this year, one dorm will have 3 beds this time. The rest will be sharing a dorm with a partner. So, get comfortable and be nice to each other. This is your home now.”
Her voice was as sweet as honey yet as sharp as knives. The dialect sounded foreign, yet it was mesmerising, a sort of Italian accent that rumbled out of her throat with every utterance of words.
I packed my bags as I walked put without paying much attention to anyone, including Emily, as I ambled towards my dorm room. The hallways were long, very long, stretching so far down it was as if I was walking down a long highway. As I navigated myself through the maze-like layout, I finally arrived at my dorm room.
Number 4.
“Great. Not surprised this is my number.”
As I entered, the dorm was quite spacing. I removed my shoes beside the rug as I walked inside. The living room was cozy, a small tv, 2 sofas, and a fan overhead. The kitchen was furnished to its full, as was the bathrooms (which were 2) and the closets and study room. As I walked down the hallway to the three bedrooms, I noticed names already placed on the front. Not bothering with the other two names, I approached mine, turning the knob and entering as I stared at a dimly lit room, plain and black, just how I like it.
So that’s why I completed that survey. I’m guessing they furnished each room to our likings. Black and plain with ancient wallpapers, a small bookshelf and a computer. The bed looks…nice, I guess. And they brought my suitcase over already. Nice.
Half an hour later, I finished unpacking my suitcase, my wardrobe filled with my clothes and accessories as I sat on the edge of my bed going through some books that were on my bookshelf. Feeling bored, I sat on the chair by my desk and surveyed the computer.
They didn’t allow any phones to bring onto the school but at least they haven’t cut us away from the internet completely.
“Come on, let’s surprise her.”
I turned to stare at my door, as I heard the patter of footsteps growing louder towards my door, with whispers rising in alertness before abruptly stopping outside my door. I waited in a tense anticipation before the door was flung open with a shot of confetti landing on my head as a pair of laughter could be heard. I stared in a trance shock for a second before snapping back to reality as I stared at Emily standing with another classmate of ours.
She had red hair, her build was quote athletic compared to Emily’s more petite shape and her eyes were a dazzling pink. Her hair was wavy and she her stature was quite welcoming as she laughed away with Emily. As the laughter died out, Emily straightened up as did the other classmate as they stared at me with a smile before Emily gestured towards the new face.
“This is Kasumi Karamazov. Our third dormmate. Stoked!”
