Chapter 4:
The Black Cat Hero and the Minister of Sloth — Reforming the World via Remote Work to Protect My Peaceful Slumber
When the blinding light faded, I found myself standing in an unfamiliar white space.
My viewpoint was higher.
I was no longer on four legs—
but standing gracefully on two.
This was the “vessel” the system of this world had given me as a savior:
a girl with flowing black hair and a body built for battle.
(…I died saving that stupid kid. So why am I here?)
In front of me, a winged woman trembled, her face pale.
“Th‑this is impossible…! A summoning accident! Why did a random house and a civilian get dragged in with the Hero!?”
(So this is a ‘god’? Don’t make me laugh. Compared to him, you’re nothing but transparent trash.)
I stared at the rift in space that showed my living room.
Kazuya lay unconscious on the floor.
“…What are you planning to do with him?”
My voice surprised even me—cold, sharp, merciless.
The goddess—Lumina—flinched violently.
“W‑well! Normally, only the savior, Lady Tarmane—that is, you—should have been summoned. He and that house are foreign objects. We must dispose of them quickly and relocate him somewhere—”
“You’re going to leave him alone?”
I stepped toward her.
This body, granted to me as a “savior,” pulsed with power meant for battle.
But that didn’t matter.
“Listen carefully, you incompetent feather duster.”
I placed a finger on Lumina’s neck.
She froze.
“Do not take him out of that house.
Maintain everything he loved—his living room, his daily life.
Protect all of it.”
“T‑that’s impossible! Maintaining such a massive structure in this world costs an absurd amount of divine power! My salary— I mean, the heavenly budget will evaporate!”
“…Fine. Then I’ll earn it for you.”
Lumina’s eyes widened.
“Earn…? You?”
“You want to throw him at the Demon King or whatever, right?
Fine. I’ll take the role of Tarmane the Savior.
I’ll go outside, hunt monsters, build achievements, and funnel divine power back to you.”
I leaned in and smiled sweetly.
“In exchange—
make sure he can spend his entire life lazing around in that house without anyone bothering him.
Put the house somewhere so high that no human or monster can reach it.
I’ll pay for everything with my ‘labor.’”
Lumina stared blankly, then her eyes began calculating.
“…So. You help me defeat the Demon King’s army.
And in return, I maintain that irregular human inside the ‘sanctuary’…
A give‑and‑take arrangement?”
“You catch on fast.
And don’t you dare think about making him a ‘Hero.’
He’s just my owner.”
Lumina nodded so hard she nearly cried.
And thus, the “comfortable cage” at the highest point in the world was completed—
the top of a colossal tree, a sanctuary severed from the world’s laws, built with Lumina’s tears and divine power.
(…Defeat the Demon King? I couldn’t care less.)
My king is the man drinking cola on that sofa.
I’ll quietly tear apart anything that threatens his peace.
Just before returning to the living room in a flash of light,
I reverted to the form of the black cat, Tama.
Two legs were powerful—
but four legs were better for being petted by him.
When I landed on the living room floor, an endless sea of clouds stretched outside the window.
“…Tama? You here? I had this weird dream—”
Kazuya woke up and called to me in a sleepy voice.
I jumped onto his lap as if it were the most natural thing in the world and purred deeply.
(I’m home. Don’t worry.
Your NEET life is under my eternal protection.)
While he napped without a care in the world,
I slipped out the window to “clean up” this world—
So I could stay by his side forever.
