Prologue: What Type of Magical Girl Do You Like Best?

A woman(or maybe just a girl?) stands in front of you. It’s too dark to really make out any of her features, but you can catch a hint of her silhouette, at least. She’s wearing a skirt. You can see that it shimmers in the few glimpses of light that have made it into the strange, dark space you’re in.

“Ah, there you are. I’ve been waiting an awful long time for you to show up. It isn’t polite to keep a lady waiting like this, you know?” She steps further away. From the echo of her words, it seems like her back is turned to you now.

“Tell me, are you a fan of magical girls, or just of death?” Before you can answer, she catches herself. “It doesn’t really matter, does it? We got you here. That’s what’s important right now. Eyes on the story! And surely it will be a grand one. The author and I have planned it out special, just for you. Does that make you happy? Does it make you want to stay?”

For a moment, her voice takes on a manic tone. “Please, say you’ll stay. Just for one more chapter, at least. You haven’t even met all the girls you’ll watch die! And I’ll make a promise to you right now, dear reader. By the end of tonight, every magical girl will die.”

“But that doesn’t mean they’re not worth watching. There are so many different types of magical girl, after all. From the modern marketing machines for children and edgy doomed girls, all the way back to little witches and magical housewives. In all of that, there has to be something for everyone, right? There’s no way you could possibly pass all of that up!”

She stares at you like she’s waiting for a response from a dumb child. After a moment, she nods to herself. “It will be good. So good. Everyone will watch.”

“You love magical girls?” She smiles.

“Then tell me, dear reader. What type of magical girl do you like best?”
