Chapter 2:
A Yandere vs. A Boy Who Will Not Die Today
It has been a week since I started going out with my girlfriend, Ui Uozomi, and I want it to be a surprise. Yes, even though she might have dangerous tendencies, she's still my girlfriend, so taking her out on dates is important... Right?
I started my Saturday morning late, lazily getting break fast ready, brushing my teeth, and heading out. As usual, I had around 30 unread messages from Ui.
"Hi." "Hello." "Keita?" "Keita?" "Why aren't you responding?" "Keita?" and the like filled my inbox.
"Soz, was sleepy. Got stuff to do today," I sent back. This is a risky message, but I think I'll be fine.
As expected, she quickly sent a message asking about what I would be doing today. "Nothing much," I replied.
I had to turn off my phone as I saw the bus approaching my stop in the distance. I sped up to catch the bus, gladly taking a seat in order to recover my breath. After a few minutes, I was near the center of the city.
There was a mall nearby, which is why I chose the destination. I headed in, making sure that she wasn't watching me. After confirm that the coast was clear, I went to and purchased stuff from the shop where I had needed to be. Then, I made my escape so as to avoid Ui putting two and two together. Then, I checked the time on my phone, ignoring the 30 new messages from Ui.
I've got time to kill, huh... And, ignoring her might lead to me getting killed.
I decided to spend the next half hour wandering around the general area, going shop to shop. I was mostly browsing as I didn't really have the money to purchase anything. As I passed by a jewelry store, I became overwhelmed by a sense of guilt.
A-am I ever going to be able to buy my girlfriend fancy stuff like that?... Also, am I ever going to live to buy my girlfriend fancy stuff like that?
After a walking past a few more stores, I came across an ice cream shop. I checked my phone again. It's probably almost time, this should be fine. I went in, getting chocolate ice cream for me and another scoop of vanilla. I left the shop, finding a bench to sit at to wait and enjoy my ice cream.
When I was halfway done with my chocolate ice cream, I thought I saw a familiar silhouette. I dismissed it, however a few seconds after, I felt someone tap the side of my head.
"Keita... What are you doing here?" Standing over me was, of course, Ui. As usual, her left eye was covered by her bangs. She wore a light blue hoodie and shorts. "Why haven't you been responding to my texts? And, you have ice cream... Are you waiting for someone else?"
"Yeah, you." I held the cup of vanilla ice cream out for her. "Eat up, or it'll melt."
She initially didn't take it, still staring at me. "Eh? Why are you still staring at me like that?! Oh, and by the way..." I reached into my pocket, pulling out what I had bought earlier. In my hand were two tickets to the movie of the anime that Ui had been talking about. "Let's go on a date, Ui!"
When I said those words, her face reddened. She reached her hand out, taking the ice cream and the ticket. "For... me?"
"Well, I don't know any other Ui, especially one that I would go on a date with."
Her eyes looked as if she were in disbelief. Then, she started eating her ice cream. "...Thank you, Keita."
"No problem! I'm the best boyfriend, aren't I?"
She took a seat next to me, leaning against my shoulder. "Mhm... Sorry for... overreacting..."
I was a bit surprised, but couldn't help but smile. "Well, I kind of expected you to overreact. That's how I was able to plan a secret date for us. Aren't I so cool?"
She nodded. "The coolest..."
After the two of us finished eating our ice cream, we got up and headed towards the movie theater. As we walked, I felt her squeeze my hand.
Man... I am... THE COOLEST! I sounded so mysterious and cool when I told her I had planned this all along! In reality, my heart is racing! I thought I was gonna die, thank god I didn't!
I glanced back at her once again. Even though she is kind of crazy, I confessed to her for a reason... I want to cherish moments like this. I reached over and pat her head. She giggled. Yup... This is the life...
Once again, I did not die today.
