Chapter 45 — A Dignified End
My New Home
As Hunter, Takashi, and Kaito enjoyed their conversation, they were being watched. Jase {formerly ?#01}, in a hotel outside Hunter's scent detection range, monitored them via satellite footage.
A51.1 Agent#01 spoke over the walkie-talkie. ⟦Sir, everyone's in place. Do we move in?⟧Jase: 「No, stay stationary. Any movement might alert Hunter, that or he knows you're there but doesn't bother dealing with you.」A51.1 Agent#01: ⟦So what are your orders, sir?⟧Jase: 「I'll move in closer. See if he reacts. And if he tries to attack, weapons free. Do whatever you have to.」A51.1 Agent#01: ⟦Copy that, sir.⟧ He turned the walkie-talkie off.Jase watched the interaction on his laptop with suspicion. 【Hunter shaking hands with the enemy? Kaito looked at Hunter. 「So, Hunter, question: can you save me from this?」Hunter looked at the mountain of a man with pity in his cold eyes. 「Kaito, you're a good dude, but I have to kill you.」Kaito was surprised. 「Wow, that's out of the blue. But can you at least tell me why?」Hunter: 「The power you gained from my blood and those unethical experiments—although they made you stronger—the experiments have shortened your life to seven years...」Kaito and Takashi were shocked beyond belief.Takashi: 「Are you sure? There's nothing you can do to save him?」Hunter shook his head. 「There isn't.」Kaito: 「Can you at least tell me how it will be?」Hunter described the fate with clinical detachment. 「Well, every bone in your body will break one by one. All your blood vessels will tear apart. Your body's pain sensitivity will be one hundred times what it is today. Then, slowly, it's your organs going one by one, and finally, your body balls up like a piece of paper, having everything in your body stabbed by your broken bones...」Kaito was horrified. 「Damn, that's fucked up.」Hunter: 「Yeah, it's fucked up like that.」 He took a drink and looked at Kaito. 「So, you ready to go?」Kaito grabbed one of the bottles and drank it all in one gulp. 「Now I am.」 He laughed coldly.Hunter: 「Alright.」 He stood in front of Kaito. 「Any last wishes?」 He held his hand out, shaped like a gun.Kaito: 「My mother. Can you make sure my mother is taken care of?」Hunter nudged his head toward the onlookers. 「Oh, your mom and sister are there.」Kaito: 「I see.」 He looked in their direction. 「Hey, Hunter, thank you.」 He looked back at Hunter.「You're welcome. You know, if you didn't follow Akuma, you would've been more on life.」Kaito: 「I know, but I don't regret the choices I made in life.」Hunter scoffed. 「You damn right... ~pulse~」
Two rapid, supersonic pulses came from Hunter's gun-shaped hand, striking Kaito. The pulses disrupted the neurons in his brain, instantly deactivating them, and stopped his heart simultaneously. The giant of a man, created in a lab, died without knowing he died, at peace in his final moments.
Hunter put his hands in his pockets. 「Say, Takashi,」 he sighed, 「no, never mind.」Kaito's mother and sister ran to the body.Mrs. Tanaka looked at Hunter calmly. 「My son. Wasn't there a way to save him?」Hunter: 「There was, but I wouldn't subject a mother to see her child suffer way more than they should.」Mrs. Tanaka's eyes welled up. 「So, are you saying that Kaito, my Kaito, would've been broken?」「Yes.」 Hunter looked up to the sky. 「What was done to him was done to me. Only difference is my mother's side of the family are unnaturally strong, so that's why I can do the stuff I do.」Mrs. Tanaka laughed sadly, remembering seeing his capabilities on TV, especially when he, as Blanco, fought the genetically modified sharks. 「So, what now?」Hunter: 「He asked if I could take care of you and your daughter.」Mrs. Tanaka was shocked. 「Really?」「Yes. And, ma'am, with your permission, can I give him a burial in Militia as a member of our army?」Mrs. Tanaka was surprised by the proposal. 「Wait, why?」Hunter: 「Well, unlike all the other genetically modified humans I've fought ever since I came out of the lab I was made in, your son didn't blame others for the choices he made. And because of respect.」「Respect?」「Yeah. As the wealthiest man on this planet, I value respect more than anything else on this rock we're on.」Mrs. Tanaka wiped the tears from her eyes. 「Thank you. I'd appreciate that.」Hunter gave a nod. 「Okay.」Fenrir stood up and started growling.Hunter: 「Don't worry, Fen.」 He looked in the direction Fenrir was growling. 「I could smell bitch from one hundred clicks away. Hey, Jase!」Jase stopped ten meters in front of them. 「Are you going to tell your dog to stop or not?」Hunter: 「Depends. Are you going to stop smelling like something he'll kill or not?」Jase: 「Tch. I don't see what Grandfather sees in a failure like you.」Hunter: 「Useless says what?」Jase: 「What.」 Takashi and Hunter laughed cruelly at him. 「Ha. Very funny.」Hunter: 「We're laughing, though.」Jase rolled his eyes. 「Anyway,」 he pointed at Kaito's body. 「That's property of the United States of America, so I'll ask you once to return it, or else!」Hunter became serious. 「Or else what?」Jase chuckled. 「Did you forget Japan is an ally of the USA? One word from Madam President, and you will be facing both armies!」Hunter laughed. 「Tch, tch, tch. Did you forget that Militians never run from a fight? Be it the USA, NATO, EU, UAE, AU, or even the NWO, we won't back down.」Jase scoffed. 「Are you really going to go to war for that failed experiment?」Hunter: 「Yeah. Let's go back home.」Nozomi stood up and went to them. 「Okay.」 She looked at Hunter and bowed. 「Thank you for helping Elder Brother the way you did.」「You're welcome.」 The Tanaka women then left.Hunter: 「Takashi, I'll send them one million yen every month through a new fund I'm starting from next month onward and other struggling families can join.」Takashi: 「Don't worry, just send the details, and I'll make sure it's done, Boss. But what will you call it?」Hunter: 「Experiment Blue.」 He looked at Takashi with a peaceful smile on his face.Takashi chuckled. 「I see. Okay, I'll leave.」 He headed toward the Third Department police officers on the beach.Takashi took out his phone and called Kaiser. 「Kaiser, we'll need people to guard the kid's body till those guys from Militia arrive.」Kaiser: ⟦We'll be there in an hour.⟧Takashi: 「Okay.」 He hung up.
