I couldn't help but notice her

The traffic in the road outside Shichirigahama High School was at the minimum. Considering this time of the year the only traffic was by people going to their jobs or shopping.

Some people seemed to be walking at the path beside the sea, even if in the middle of the October the wind blowing from the sea was quite cold. 

Oshan was looking outside of the window the sea near the street. The last draw of changing seats made him to move away from the blackboard, but he always loved sitting beside the window. Even if sometimes he didn't pay attention to the lesson, he really enjoyed looking at the waves hitting the wall above the street.

Turning his attention back to the teacher in the classroom, Oshan took a look on his notebook to check if his notes were the same in the blackboard. With his mind a bit hazy he started playing with his mechanical pencil to pass the time. 

He wasn't a bad student, but sometimes he found himself getting easily distracted or bored in Japanese poetry lessons. Today's lesson was more like another history lesson because they were learning about Matsuo Bashō poetry along with all of his biography.

Ten minutes later the bell rang for the end of the Third Period. The students in the classroom tidy their things ready for the next period while some of them run of the classroom in a hurry either to catch up with friends from other classrooms or to buy some food from the cafeteria.

Oshan was checking his homework for the mathematics of the next period, when suddenly felt a hand patting his back.

"Still studying even on the breaks nerd?" a teasing voice said to him

Oshan turned his head to look on the direction of the voice. A tall student with flashy appearance and brown messy hair looking at him while he was smirking.

Oshan turned his attention back on his notebook nonchalant.

"This nerd won't let you, study from his notes ever again" he said apathetically

The student from behind him changed his expression and immediately put both of his hands on Oshan back and shake him a bit.

"OOOshaan, come on now, you don't mean that do you? I was just joking" he pleaded to him with a concerned tone

"I told you to stop calling me nerd"

"Look I'm sorry man, but what do you expect me to do when I see you studying even in breaks?"

"Better than some 'others' who doesn't study even at home"

"Arghh.." the student let go off his back and groaned defeated and back away.

"You're not fun at all Oshan, you really need to learn to loosen up sometimes" he said to him as he sits on the desk beside him

"School it's not about loosen up, it's all about learning and getting to Universities Suiiki"

"Yeah yeah, but you have to learn to be a bit more social able"

 Oshan has never been very social especially in school. His manners and his behaviour were always focused and a bit tensed, while Suiiki was cheerful and smooth. Suiiki was Oshan best friend, they've been known each other since junior high school.

An outsider will be really confused how can those two be such good friends since even Suiiki flashy appearance made Oshan look more like shut-in nerd.

"Anyway, are you coming to the cafeteria?" Suiiki asked Oshan

"I'm not buying you another bun"

"I know that already, it's my time to treat you Oshan" 

"Hm, neither I will let you copy my homework in return"

"What kind of person to you think I am?!" Suiiki started to complain for the unbased accusation as they both stand up and walk outside from the classroom

Oshan let Suiiki check his notes various times, but he never let him copy his homework, he considered that action same as let him cheat on a test.

As they walked Suiiki was looking at female group who will talking casually on the stairs

"Man, some of the new transfer students are very cute" Shuiiki comment with a sly look on his face

"I'm going to tell Etsuko what a pervert you truly are"

"Ooshaan I just state the obvious, and you know that I will never cheat on my sweet Etsuko"

"Sometimes I'm wondering how a guy like you managed to date Etsuko"

"You're so mean, also you know that in reality I'm just trying to help you find a girlfriend"

"I don't need a girlfriend"

"Now you're just being silly, everyone wants a girlfriend"

"I already got three girls back home, I don't need more female distractions in my life"

Oshan had three sisters in his family, one older and two little. When he's older sister got a job, he was responsible of taking care he's little sisters when both of his parents were at work. This makes him lose a lot of his precious time for studying and playing video games. Since that kind of experience, Oshan understand from his point of view, that having a girlfriend meant for him another girl spending his time on. 

"That doesn't count and you know that" Suiiki told to him as they were walking downstairs to the cafeteria

As they arrived at the end of the stairs a female student pass in front of them and start walking upstairs without paying any attention to them. Oshan smelled a sweet fragrance coming from her and instinctively without thinking turn his head to look at the girl. 

Surprised the girl that walking upstairs was still wearing her summer uniform. The weather outside didn't justify such clothes especially this time of the year. 

 Oshan didn't managed to look at her face, but he noticed that her hair was light-coloured dyed in the colour of peach with pink streaks. School policy didn't allow for the students dying their hair, but nowadays a lot of students considered cool and rebellious, so they do it anyway even if it affected their grades.

"Yo daydreamer...hey I'm talking to you" Oshan turned his head back when Suiiki started shaking his shoulder

"Eh?! Ah yes, I'm sorry let's go" he answered quickly and started walking towards to the cafeteria

"Did you just lay eyes on a girl? I don't believe I would live to see you doing that"

"Knock it off man, I wasn't doing anything indecent"

"I didn't say it was indecent, I'm just saying it's not like you at all... especially checking out a girl like her" 

"Her?"

"Yep...that was Kohaku Senpai. And she's also not like you at all"

Oshan ignored Suiiki teasing behaviour and walked towards to the counter to choose a melon bun.
