Chapter 19:

A Boy, a Dog Girl and Honey's Revelation: Part Three

Sweetheart: The Remade Dog Girl and Her Loyal Boy

“Well? What do you think, dear girl?” Vessria asked, the red velvet curtain thrown back as Honey stepped from the dressing room. The dress she wore was a deep burgundy, with the right side sloping down to her ankle and the left stoping above her knee. Crystals were woven through the fabric, causing it to sparkle and shimmer as Honey moved, careful in her tread.

“It’s so sparkly! Like I’m wearing the sky when it’s turning night! And it’s kinda…bouncy up top.”

“Yeah, the low cut is definitely doing your girls some favors,” Vessria said, rounding Honey, taking her figure in from all angles. “I never realized how shapely your butt was.”

“Of course she has a firm butt. She used to have a tail. It got a great workout,” Isadora said.

“Do you think Zack will like it?” Honey asked, her eyes wide and hopeful.

Vessria and Isadora practically groaned, their eyes rolling into their heads until they finally met each others. The same thought passed between the siblings.

“Somebody get me a rolled up news scroll. We have to boop this doggy right on the nose,” Vessria sighed.

“Why don’t you want me to show it to Zack?” Honey asked, her head tilting in her familiar pose of confusion.

“Come along, dear. Shoes are next. We’ll walk and talk,” Isadora said, gently holding her hand with her massive fingers.

Honey walked with them, her eyes moving around the expensive, exclusive boutique which Vessria had led them to as the first stop on their girls day out. The well dressed woman at the door had gleefully greeted them as her two most loyal customers, casually fretting over Isadora’s fit. She had never seen a place with so much pretty…everything in it. It was a whole new world for the dog girl, and she wanted to see it all.

“Ah. The look. She has the look, dear sister,” Isadora said.

“What look?” Honey asked.

“The look of a woman who wants to burst into the world and declare she exists in it! However, you have some naughty thoughts running around in your head,” Vessria said, sitting Honey in a plush chair. “Sister! Shoes! Something which sparkles but isn’t gaudy.”

“Something which sparkles yet isn’t gaudy? I see why you put me in charge,” Isadora said, laying her sword on the chair next to Honey as she began browsing the shoe rack.

“I have naughty thoughts? Like Zack and the goblin girls?”

“No, but I’m filing the goblin girls info away for later,” Vessria said with a smirk. “Why is your first thought always about Zack?”

“Because he’s my sweetheart and I love him. Should I not?”

“No, dear, it’s good to love someone. But…” Isadora stopped, her towering frame leaning back as she tapped a finger on her chin, straining to come up with the right words. “I love my sister, but each action I take isn’t ruled by how it affects Vessria. I’m my own woman.”

“And I with her. We are clearly two different people. I never would have done what she did with the sword. Each of us has different wants and needs. So what do YOU want, Honey?”

“I…I want Zack happy!” Honey said with a smile.

“Okay, we need to simplify this…” Vessria sighed. “Imagine if Zack were dead. What would you be doing with your life?”

An amazing transformation took place on Honey’s face. The mere thought of Zack being dead caused her skin to go pale, her lower lip to quiver, her eyes to grow wide and wet. She shook her head violently, her hair flailing about. “No! I don’t like this thought!”

“Maybe I should take over this task, sister,” Isadora said, gently sliding her massive frame in front of Honey, kneeling before her as Vessria backed away as if from a fire.

“Gladly, sister.”

“There we go,” Isadora said, sliding a sparkling crystal covered sandal over Honey’s foot. “Now, instead of dead, let us imagine Zack has left on a trip for a month. You are all alone. What do you do?”

Honey blinked away her tears, her face resetting. “I…I don’t know. I’ve been around Zack all my life. Even after I changed, I’ve never been alone.”

“Well, you’re alone in a way now. Two strange women you barely know pressgang you into a fun day out. You are free. Free from expectations or needs. What do you want?”

“I want…”

Her mind swirled. They were asking the impossible. Don’t think about how Zack would feel about things? How Chista was sad? Her want was to make her loved ones happy.

But…her loved ones weren’t around.

“I want…I want to be pretty! Like Vessria! I want makeup like you, Isadora! I want to be sparkly and shiny and…and loud! I want people to be happy when they see me because I’m happy!”

“There’s my girl!” Isadora said, hugging Honey gently. “And thank you for noticing the makeup. I swear, getting this face to look right is a nightmare!”

“Self induced nightmare,” Vessria said, tapping the sword. “Alright, we have a game plan. First, we get you these fabulous shoes. Then, we go off to the salon, get your hair and nails and makeup done. Finally, we will sashay through the city, letting you revel in each pretty feeling which passes through your head.”

“I love this plan!” Isadora cried out, hauling Honey up.

“Of course you do! I thought of it!” Vessria said, standing and posing in a dramatic fashion, her voice possibly louder than Isadora’s.

“I LIKE SHOUTING TOO!” Honey screamed, happy to be part of the group.

“Ladies!”

The attendant from earlier was staring at them, hands on her hips, foot tapping on the polished wooden floor, face scrunched up. Several other women were staring at them, some amused, many annoyed.

“Not a dramatic bone in their fragile little bodies,” Vessria huffed. “Ladies, prepare your coins! We are done here, but the day is far from over!”
