The Devil's Sarkar

KFC News 79 — 9.30 A.M. — Live Broadcast

[Priyamani]: "Good morning. You're watching KFC News 79. We start with breaking news out of Tuticorin."

The screen cuts to drone footage: grey water, grey sky, yellow police tape snapping in the wind.

[Priyamani]: "For the second time in seven days, a body has been recovered from the banks of the Thamirabarani River. Police confirmed it was found hanging beneath the old railway bridge. Our field reporter, Mani, is live outside the Medical College. Mani, what are the police saying?"

The feed stutters. Mani's mic crackles. Behind him, white vans. Body bags. Too many officers for one corpse.

[Mani]: "Priyamani, yes. I'm standing outside Tuticorin Medical College. Police retrieved the victim less than an hour ago. Unofficial sources say the body was... displayed. Strung up under the bridge like a warning. The autopsy is underway. No ID, no cause of death yet. But locals are already calling this a pattern. Howeever the commissioner has named the investigators for this case; Inspector Srimathi and to assist her a CID detective has been sent from Delhi."

[Priyamani] : "Thank you, Mani. We'll stay on this."

The camera cuts back to studio. Priyamani doesn't blink. Her teleprompter scrolls, but she's not reading it.

[Priyamani]: "Two murders. Same river. One month until elections. The city is scared. The politicians are interested. The president and the Prime Minister have expressed their condolences to the family and relatives, they also advised the head of the state, Chief minister to take immediate actions and prepare a man-hunt. And the killer—"

She stops herself. Smiles. Too late.

[Priyamani]: "—is still out there. We'll be right back after the break."

Broadcast cuts to ads. Somewhere in Tuticorin, a phone buzzes. New message. Unknown number.

"I became a artist right away. Wait, 'cause there's more to come"
