Chapter 6:

Kurumi-kun Makes His Move, Too!

My Best Friend's Little Brother, Kurumi-kun, Teaches Me Love!

THE CURRY THAT KURUMI-KUN cooked smells really delicious even if it’s missing half of the ingredients. I wish I could have this every day.

I take a spoonful of rice covered in curry sauce. There’s some steam coming out of it still. I blow on it a couple of times.

“Here. Ahn~.” The person next to me opens his mouth in joy.

Kurumi-kun is visibly in bliss.

His two sisters, the twins Anna and Enna, are also eating with us. They seem to be in their own world talking about Pokemon. That reminds me, my little brother, Yuuki, also likes Pokemon. Maybe I’ll have him teach me about it some of these days.

On the other side of the dining table from me is Rin-chan who’s visibly repulsed by the sight of her best friend feeding her little brother dinner.

But I promise there’s a perfectly good reason for all this. Let’s go back twenty minutes earlier.

“Big bro?” The cute young girl on the left said.

“What are you doing?” The cute young girl on the right followed.

I look up to see two identical looking girls, who’s obviously short, tower over me and Kurumi-kun.

This must be her little sisters.

“P-please help. Kurumi-kun is hurt.”

“E-eh? Big bro is bleeding!” Said the one on the left.

“Big bro is bleeding! Big sis, help!” Said the one on the right.

Kurumi-kun is bleeding? Then that means… the knife must’ve nicked his back when it fell.

“Kurumi-kun?!” I try to shake his body but stopped before I could do so. It’s probably not the best thing to do. “Are you okay, Kurumi-kun?”

“Y-yeah… I think I’m fine.” He responded—his voice failing to suppress the pain he’s feeling.

“What happened here?” Another person enters the kitchen. It’s Rin-chan. “What the—What the heck?!”

I’m sure she’s going to have another one of her infamous lectures but now is not the time for that.

“I can explain later. Please help Kurumi-kun. He’s hurt!”

Noticing the panic in my voice, Rin-chan immediately went over to us. The first thing she did was turn off the stove.

Then she gently lifts off Kurumi-kun off me. He winced at the pain for a bit but once he got accustomed to the sharp pain, he managed to not make any sound while being helped to the sofa.

Now that Kurumi-kun was off me, I stand up to clean the mess that we accidentally did.

“Yume-chan. Can you get me the first aid kit. Anna, show her.” Rin-chan hollered.

The girl on the left scurried off to the entrance of the house. So, she’s Anna-chan. Then this one must be Enna-chan.

I followed Anna-chan to the entrance where the first-aid kit was tucked away in a cabinet that a girl like her can’t reach.

She looks really scared. Honestly, I kind of am too but I have to calm her down. Enna-chan too.

I quickly handed the kit to Rin-chan and gathered the twins to reassure them.

“Anna-chan, Enna-chan.” I motioned for them to get closer. “Are you worried for your big brother?”

The two nodded in unison, their tears just about to start falling.

“Will big bro Kurumi be all right?” Anna-chan, wearing a red shirt, asks me.

“Is Big bro going to die?” Enna-chan, wearing a green shirt, starts silently sobbing.

“Kurumi-kun is going to be all right. Look, your big sis Rin is helping him.” I point at Rin-chan on the sofa cleaning the wound on Kurumi-kun’s back.

“…I’m o-okay, you two... S-sorry for… making you worry.” Seems like Kurumi-kun really is all right—just a bit hurt.

“See? Your big bro is strong. He’s going to be all right.” I pat them both on the head to help them calm down.

They both nodded and stopped crying.

These girls are a bit odd but it seems like they just love their big brother too much. I’d be the same if anything bad happens to my little brother so it’s not like I can talk much.

They both grasp my hands from their head. “Will you help big bro too?” The duo said in harmony.

“H-huh? W-well…” How do I even answer this question. Rin-chan can hear us too!

“If big sis Yume-chan helps big bro…” Anna-chan said.

“Then, big bro will heal faster.” Enna-chan finished the sentence.

They both look at me with puppy dog eyes.

“Ack!” My weakness. I have no choice but to surrender to these cute duo!

“L-leave it to me!”

…

And there you have it.

Kurumi-kun seems to be in high spirits, even after what happened so I’m glad.

Though every now and then, when he has to move his body, I can see his blissful smile betray him for a moment. It still must be painful. I mean, of course it would.

He opens his mouth wide once more, signaling that he’s ready for another bite to which I put a spoonful of curry and rice in his mouth.

Across from us, I hear a loud groan.

“Hey, so…” Rin-chan is exuding such a dark aura. “Maybe I should take over that—the feeding, I mean.”

I look back at Kurumi-kun to see how he’d react to that only to find him doing the same puppy dog eyes his sisters have done to me earlier.

I can’t. I really can’t! HE’S SO DAMN CUTE!

“W-well… I-it’s fine, isn’t it? I mean, I’m kind of responsible for getting himself hurt. This is the least I can do.” As a slave to all things cute, I ended up trying to convince my best friend to let me continue feeding her little brother.

“I-I see…” She doesn’t look convinced. “Just keep the giggling to yourself, Kurumi. It’s freaking me out.”

The rest of the dinner celebration went by without a hitch.

Sometime during the evening, Rin-chan got a call from her mom saying that she might get home late since she’s still needed at work. The kids didn’t react to that information. Must be a common occurrence.

Though, thinking about it, having to work late during the weekends must suck for everybody involved. I’m sure she wants to be home with her kids just as much as the kids want her home.

Still, it’s probably for the best that she’s not here right now. I have a strange feeling that she might figure out about me and Kurumi-kun.

After dinner, the twins went back to their own room to play games with each other.

As for Kurumi-kun, he insisted that he’d stay downstairs to help clean up, probably to capitalize having me in their home but after a stern scolding from Rin-chan and a glance of “just do what she says” from me, he eventually came around and went to his room—with our assistance, of course.

So now it’s just me and Rin-chan in the kitchen washing the dishes and pots we used.

We made small talk here and there but the conversation keeps dying, even though it’s topics that we both have interests in.

I wonder what’s up.

Rin-chan starts up another conversation.

“Hey Yumeko?” Weird. She almost never calls me by my full name… Ah. Did she catch on?

“Y-yeah?” I replied nervously.

“Is there something going on between you and my brother?”

Busted.
