Chapter 4:

The Morning After the Confession

That month of yearning

As I was reminiscing about that not-so-beloved memory, I was jolted back to reality as the teacher hit me with the corner of his book.

"Hey, no sleeping in class, Natsuki."

"Uhhh, sorry about that, Teach."

I feel so sleepy today, everything just goes from one side of my brain to the other. Is it completely filled with Saya right now or what? Reminding myself that overthinking is not the solution, I look back to the board and start writing down my notes, at least I should maintain the only good thing about myself, my image towards my peers. I noticed Saya from the corner of my eye, and I could feel her ever-so-penetrating gaze, only today, it was slightly mixed with some affection and, as I met her eyes, she quickly turned her face away. Ouch, that must have hurt her neck.

Thinking back on yesterday, I still couldn't believe Saya's confession. Like I knew she was my closest friend and even though she always teased me, I know that she never hated me. But a confession? What spurred that, and since when did she have these feelings? I felt like a dumbass for not noticing not even an ounce of these feelings, but maybe she was just that good at hiding them. Till yesterday, I guess.

I contemplate on the options that I have going forward. Placing my hand on my mouth, I think about Saya. I felt a sudden chill down my spine. I have to somehow answer her, but either answer can impact our relationship going forward. That prospect was not something I was looking for, and I started racking my brain for alternatives.

I decided ignoring her right now was not the right way to go about it. As the lunch bell rang, I stood up and walked up to Saya's seat which was literally the exact opposite of my seat from the layout of the classroom. It made for not much communication during period breaks, but I guess we got time to eat together during lunch break. Though, that was not the priority today. As I walked up to her seat, she noticed me and stood up awkwardly.

"Yo Saya, how about lunch in cafetaria today?" I said as I place a hand on her shoulder gently.

She let out a very vivid shriek, but it quickly drowned in the noise of the class during lunch break.

"I... I have something to do, let's do it sometime later. See you, then."

She proceeded to then run so fast, I could not even fathom to catch her. Not that would make a difference right now. Ah, this is gonna be a pain in the ass, isn't it?
