Chapter 0:

Those That Wish Upon a Star

Magical Star☆Maidens!

Tell me, little one.

Have you ever dreamed of being a butterfly?

That you could watch your own life through the eyes of an insignificant little creature?

Seeing your own birth as your mother holds you in her arms, a warm embrace filled with the most pure and beautiful feelings in the world. Your first words, your first steps.

Seeing your first day of school and the first step you took into a new life that led to a tumble. Your first friend, your first fight.

Seeing that time in middle school when you and your friend got caught reading dirty magazines in the back of the class. Your first crush, your first heartbreak.

Seeing your high school days, you and your friends hanging out, and you falling in love again. Your first part-time job, your first plans for the future.

Yes, all of those memories are an essential part of you. They are what makes you, you.

…

And yet, they are submerged in an endless abyss of darkness. So profound and deeply rooted within yourself, that it wouldn’t be you without it.

But even amidst this sea of black, a single light remains, and it burns brighter than the sun itself.

Yes, her.

She is the light of your life, the one thing this all-consuming darkness cannot touch, but even she is but a blur to you.

No name, no face, no dreams.

A light without shape or meaning, but a light nonetheless.

…

Well then, little butterfly.

Our time is coming to an end.

I do not know what lies ahead.

Will you dream?

Or

Will your nightmares consume you?

Who can say?

But no matter what happens, or what challenges lie ahead.

Do not let the darkness consume you, no matter how alluring it may be.

Find the light, her light, your light, and protect it.

Now, little butterfly-

State Your Wish.

PINK

At a luxurious penthouse, a group of three women are having a very heated dinner.

“-ko! Don’t you run away, little lady!” Shouts a pink-haired woman as she stands up from her seat. “I’m not done talking to you!”

“I’m not running!” A younger girl with the same hair color replies, her back still turned to the dinner table. “I just-“ Biting her lower lip, she sighs. “-lost my appetite.” Without waiting for a response, she storms off, leaving the woman and the third girl alone in the room.

“Argh! That girl is impossible!”

“She just needs some time alone, Harue-san.”

That exchange is the last thing the younger pink-haired girl hears before she slams the door to her room shut with a powerful thud.

She leans against it and slides down until her body hits the floor.

Her grayish eyes gaze at the messy bedroom in front of her. “Geez, I really need to clean this place up.” There were random articles of clothing scattered everywhere, and even some training equipment like weights by the bedside.

With a sigh, she stands up and walks up to the balcony and leans against the guardrails, staring at the city lights. “Is it that hard for her to understand me?” The pink-haired teen murmurs, a sad expression resting on her face.

The lights coming from the city illuminated this dark night as if it was still day, and from her penthouse, the girl could casually watch as people went on with their daily lives.

Most would kill to be in her position, to have such a luxurious way of life, yet, the young maiden herself only sighed. “Papa…” She whispers to no one in particular.

Looking up at the sky, her gaze focuses on a single sight.

A lone shooting star crossing the sky. “…” Taking a deep breath, the pinkette closes her eyes. “A shooting star! I should-“ She stops and chuckles at her own giddy childishness. “-make a wish.”

Yes, it was very childish, but she didn’t care.

Bringing her hands together, she whispers gently to the wind. “I wish for-“

RED

Walking alone at night, a teenage girl with long red hair in braids, stops by a lamppost. A gentle breeze flies by her, making her hair sway along. “Heh, it’s been a while since I’ve seen such a beautiful night.” She whispers, takes a deep breath and looks up. “How pretty.” A small smile forms on her lips.

In a rare sight for a metropolitan city, the stars were actively visible, and they shone brightly in the sky.

It was almost enough to make one forget their own problems-

*RING, RING*

-almost.

Pulling out her phone, which is an older model, she quickly unlocks it and takes the call.

“Yes, Onee-san?”

The faint smile she had quickly faded away.

“Yes, yes. Got it.” She quietly listens as the woman on the other side continues talking, although truth be told, she wasn’t paying that much attention anyway. “I see, then see you tomorrow.” Ending the call, the redhead turns around and sighs while adjusting her coat. “Another night alone.”

Looking up to the sky again, she catches a shooting star with the corner of her eye.

“…” Bringing her hands together, she whispers gently. “It might be wishful thinking but, please star-san, grant my wish-“

GREEN

“Tsk! Shitty ass door!” A green-haired girl grunts as she forcefully closes the door to her room. “Ten fucking minutes to close this piece of shit!” She angrily whispers to herself while stomping towards her bed. “All the money in the fucking world and those cunts can’t even pay for a better door!” As she lays down on the bed, the creaking of the door makes her groan. “Well! FUCK YOU TOO!” She grabs a pillow and tosses it at the entrance.

Obviously, nothing happens as the girl grunts and continues to swear to high heavens.

After around five minutes, the greenette finally stops her verbal fight against an inanimate object and stands up from the bed, quickly moving through the spacious room and towards the balcony.

Feeling the cold, nightly air hitting her face, the girl takes a deep breath. “…” She looks around at the many mansions around her own, most of them with their lights out. “Well, at least someone is having fun. They are definitely fucking.” After an amused giggle to herself, the girl sighs again. “Shit. I’m bored.” Looking up towards the starry sky, the green-haired teen catches a shooting star crossing the sky. “I’m no damn kid, but-“ Bringing her hands together, the greenette asks. “Hey shitty little star? I have a wish-“

YELLOW

At a different mansion, a family finishes dinner and the son stands up, bowing politely before excusing himself away.

Walking through the long hallways, the blond boy stops as a voice calls for him.

“Do you need anything before bed, Goshujin-sama?” A girl, barely older than himself, asks. Her French maid outfit swaying slightly as she moves closer to him.

“No, thank you.” He smiles and waves gently with his hand. “I’ll call if I need anything, Aino-san.” With that said, the boy politely excuses himself and continues on his way.

It doesn’t take him long to find his room and enter it. Once inside, the blond wastes no time and quickly changes into his pajamas. He does some homework, then moves in towards his bed, but stops just before lying down in it.

His eyes move across the room and stop at a violin hanging on the other side of the room. His gaze softens and he lets out a sad sigh. “…” Turning around again, he closes in on the violin and holds it on his hands, sliding his delicate fingers across the wood of the instrument. “… maybe someday.” He smiles wistfully and hangs the violin once again.

As he moves back towards his spacious bed, the boy stops by the window as a shooting star catches the corner of his eye.

“?” The blond turns towards the window and asks himself. “A shooting star?” Blinking, he chuckles to himself. “It’s a bit childish but-“ He brings his hands together and closes his eyes, then whispers. “Please, grant my wish-“

BLUE

“Here ya go, ‘n done!” A young girl with blue hair says to herself as she takes off her protective goggles. “With this, my project should be almost done. Just a couple more tests ‘n I’ll be one step closer to figurin’ out that weird sound.” She stands up from her chair and cleans the sweat off her brow. “Darnit, now I’m all sweaty. Gotta go take a bath.” With a sigh, the bluenette quickly moves out of what seemed like a laboratory.

She walks through the halls of a house that looked completely different from the previous room, almost like they were from two entirely different dimensions.

While moving towards the bathroom, the small girl stops by the window and looks at the starry sky outside. “Nice, the stars are out today-“ She pauses as a shooting star cuts across the sky. “-my, my, how lucky of me, eh?”  Closing her eyes, the girl whispers to herself. “Might as well. O shootin’ star, grant my wish-“

WHITE

It doesn’t matter where I look.

There’s only white.

Everything is white.

It’s a void.

Endless emptiness.

Devoid of any color-

dreams-

-or reality.

There is nothing.

Just white.

I can’t feel my legs.

I can’t feel my arms.

I can’t feel anything.

…

If I can’t feel anything.

Am I still me?

Or am I someone else?

What am I?

Where am I?

Who am I?

I don’t know.

I can’t remember.

Or maybe I don’t want to remember.

But even so-

-I can hear them.

Voices.

So close,

yet, so far.

So familiar,

yet, unrecognizable.

They call for their dreams.

They call upon a star.

They call for me.

I don’t know what am I.

Where am I.

Nor who am I.

What I do know.

Is that I want to hear those voices.

To see their faces.

To feel their touch.

That is my wish.

***

The silver glow of the moonlight bathes the city of Yorutsumi, a place just like any other, where the people go on with their lives one step at a time.

And on that night, one just like all others, a single shooting star crossed the sky, but instead of being swallowed whole by the endless space, it came down to the planet like a miracle.

It fell by some trash in an alley, its beautiful purple glow illuminating the dark for a couple of seconds, before dying down.

To most people walking past that alley, it was just another night in the city, but for a select few scattered across Yorutsumi, it was anything but an ordinary night.

For on that night, the wheels of fate began to turn and the journey of those that wished upon a star started to turn.
