Chapter 2:

The Revival

Extinction

“Tsak johbi kento kurgos alvae vamstabo…”
Those were the strange words Billy heard.
Moments later, his eyes slowly opened.

He lay motionless on the ground, confused beyond understanding. His mind struggled to process whether he was in heaven, hell… or some kind of parallel world.

As his vision cleared, he saw figures standing around him.

Tribals.

Their bodies were painted completely black, with white markings and strange designs drawn across their faces. Thick braids hung from their heads, and animal-skin wrappings covered parts of their bodies like something from the Stone Age.

Billy’s heart began racing.

I definitely ended up in hell…

The people around him continued staring silently, as if they had never seen someone like him before.

Then, suddenly—

a small boy stepped forward from the crowd.

“My name is Kael,” he said calmly.

Billy froze.

The boy was speaking English.

Kael sat beside him and slowly began explaining everything.

Long ago, their tribe had a leader who possessed the power to predict future events. His visions had helped the tribe survive for generations, hidden away from the outside world.

The old leader had also taught Kael English when he was very young.

Then, the day before his death, the leader gathered everyone together and made one final prediction.

“The one who will protect this tribe will soon arrive.

My time to leave has finally come.”

At first, the tribe believed his words completely.

But after many days passed, they slowly began losing hope.

Until Billy appeared on the shore of the Black Sea.

And so, believing the prophecy had come true, the tribe brought him back to their hidden village.

At the same time, a group of tribals arrived carrying another person in their arms.

Unlike Billy, this man looked powerful.

He was shirtless, his body covered in heavy muscles. His short hair was unevenly cut, and dark tattoos stretched across his chest and shoulders. The markings immediately reminded Billy of someone from the Coastal Forces.

A guard.

The man slowly opened his eyes, looking around in confusion just like Billy had earlier. It was obvious that he also could not understand the language spoken by the tribals.

Kael stepped forward once again and explained everything to him.

After listening silently for a while, the man finally spoke.

“My name is Alex Carmen,” he said. “I’m an artillery trader.”

Billy narrowed his eyes immediately.

A trader…?

He didn’t believe it for even a second.

The tattoos on Alex’s body were too familiar. Only Coastal Guards usually carried designs like those.

Billy quickly tried to explain his suspicion to Kael.

But before he could finish—

the surrounding tribals suddenly began shouting loudly among themselves.

The atmosphere turned tense instantly.

Kael looked at both of them seriously.

“You both need to come to the temple.”

Billy frowned.

A temple…?

At that moment, he became even more convinced that this place had to be hell.

Alex looked toward Kael impatiently.

“Where is this temple?”

Kael raised his hand and pointed toward the northeast.

“On the mountain.”

Billy and Alex looked in that direction.

But all they could see was endless land stretching into the distance.

“There’s no mountain there,” Alex replied.

Kael remained calm.

“It’s too far away to see from here.”

Both Billy and Alex were then made to sit in front of a large black stone placed at the center of the village.

The tribals surrounded it silently, bowing their heads as if it were their god.

A strange bracelet made from rough metal and carved bones was tied onto both of their wrists.

Billy stared at it nervously.

Kael stepped forward and explained calmly,

“Since two outsiders arrived instead of one, the tribe cannot identify who the true chosen one is.”

Billy and Alex looked at each other.

“So both of you will be taken to the mountain temple,” Kael continued, “where you will be judged before our god.”

Billy’s thoughts immediately spiraled.

One more strange thing…

What if these people aren’t humans at all?

What if they’re devils pretending to look like tribals?

Soon, the tribal leader gathered five armed warriors, and the journey began.

The group walked through dense forests in complete silence.

After a while, Billy quietly moved closer to Alex.

“Did you… experience death before ending up here?” Billy asked carefully.

Alex stared at him for a second before scoffing.

“Did staying with these tribal kids make you stupid already?”

Before Billy could reply, one of the barbarians lightly smacked Alex on the shoulder and gestured angrily for him not to speak in sign language again.

Alex rolled his eyes and continued walking.

Hours passed.

They crossed an old wooden bridge hanging over a deep valley, walked several more kilometers, and finally stopped near a small wooden house hidden between the trees.

Food was served.

No one spoke much.

After eating, everyone rested for a short while.

Billy and Alex slowly drifted to sleep.

But sometime later, Billy’s eyes suddenly opened.

A thought crossed his mind.

Why shouldn’t I just run away?

Carefully, he tried to sit up—

only to freeze instantly.

The tribal warriors were already awake.

All of them stood around the resting area silently, as if they had been watching the entire time.

Billy slowly lay back down again.

Then another thought hit him.

Even if I escape… I don’t know the way back.

A few minutes later, the group resumed their journey.

As evening approached, they finally reached the bottom of the mountain.

But instead of climbing it—

the tribal leader led them toward a dark cave hidden beneath it.

Torch fires burned faintly along the stone walls as they stepped inside.

After traveling through the cave for some time, Billy began noticing the strange walls surrounding them.

Most of the cave appeared to be formed from pale limestone, its surface rough and wet from the constant moisture dripping from above. The deeper they went, the colder the air became.

No one spoke.

Only the sound of footsteps echoed through the darkness.

After walking for several more minutes, the group suddenly stopped near a stream of underground water.

The tribals stepped into it without hesitation.

Billy followed nervously.

As he walked through the shallow water, he noticed the trembling ripples spreading around his feet. The waves shook unevenly, revealing the fear running through his body.

He looked down silently.

Even the water could sense his nervousness.

Soon, the tribe turned toward a steep rocky path rising along the right side of the cave wall.

The climb was difficult.

Sharp stones pressed against their feet while torchlight flickered across the narrow pathway. Step by step, they continued upward until, finally—

they reached the top of the mountain.

At the peak stood the temple.

Ancient.

Silent.

Its stone pillars were covered in strange carvings, and the cold wind around it made the entire place feel unnatural.

The tribe entered quietly and immediately began praying.

Billy and Alex stood still, watching everything carefully.

Then the tribal leader removed several dried leaves from a bamboo backpack hanging across his shoulder. He crushed them inside a stone bowl before burning them using the flame from a nearby torch.

A thick smoke slowly rose from it.

The leader first approached Alex.

Without warning, he grabbed Alex’s face and forced the smoke toward him.

But nothing happened.

Alex had secretly controlled his breathing and avoided inhaling it completely.

The tribal leader frowned.

Then he turned toward Billy and repeated the same process.

Still—

nothing happened.

Confusion spread across the faces of the tribals.

The leader tried once again.

But even now, there was no reaction.

The old man’s expression slowly darkened.

He understood one thing clearly—

the chosen one had to be identified at any cost.

This time, he burned even more leaves.

The smoke became thicker.

As the leader forced it toward them again, Alex quickly escaped backward before inhaling much of it.

But Billy—

was too slow.

The moment he breathed it in—

pain exploded through his body.

He collapsed onto the ground instantly.

Every muscle tightened violently.

It felt as though each and every cell inside him was burning apart from within.
