File 9.2 - Secrets in the Window

A week passed in silence around the world. No further attacks occurred, Ragnarok apparently remained silent. Their silence bothered Ansgar, as he knew that they weren’t defeated entirely. There remained more machines out there to cause problems. It did mean that they remained on constant stand-by, though not required to remain in their machines, thankfully.

His status did mean that he was restricted to remaining near the hangar. So he couldn’t go much further than the main Command building. It gave him at least a little room to move about. And a lot of time to think, just no time to investigate his concerns. Even with the silence of Ragnarok, he remained unconvinced now that the machines they fought and the terrorist organization were the same. He just didn’t know who they would be if they weren’t terrorists and that thought worried him greatly.

Suddenly, his pad flashed with an alert. Unlike the launch orders, this was just a normal notification. Examining it, he found that it was sent to the AESIR pilots, but more specifically that it was intended for Edgar and Shizuka. “Freya and Od final activation scheduled along with live combat simulation.” The live combat simulation sent his mind back to his mock battle with Air, it would be the same thing.

More for the message remained, he noticed. “Petty Officer Third Class Edgar Dubois and Shizuka KItawara are to report to hanger bay B? They’re launching them?” Ansgar continued to read on wanting an explanation. “The activation and combat simulation will occur at Test Site Delta? What’s Test Site Delta?”

He quickly pulled up a different document running a search for the test site. His memory wasn’t perfect, he knew, but any major installation he knew about. And it was a notable point that there were no off base sites. Everything was constructed and researched internally on the base. And his searches found nothing on this mystery base. Nothing in the database acknowledged its existence, even though it now suddenly was being used.

Ansgar re-read over the message just to confirm it before dropping his arms to his side and leaning against the wall. ‘More secrets…more lies…why would they keep such a thing secret? What purpose does it serve? Are they that paranoid about security breaches?’ He only had questions and none of them sent him down roads that he liked. The path only became darker and concealed from his sight. Before long he wouldn’t even recognize his own hands in front of him he feared. ‘What’s going on?’
