Chapter 27:
My Hero Academia: Gura Gura no Mi
Several students sighed. No one wanted to be caught by Hitoshi Shinso's Brainwashing. His reputation had suffered for years because people were afraid of what Brainwashing could do.
Kirishima, Tsuyu, Hagakure, and the others looked at Yuto with worry.
Had he really been controlled?
Yuto only looked at Shinso. "So?"
Shinso froze. "How? I used Brainwashing. Why are you fine?"
Yuto gave a casual shrug.
Then his eyes went cold.
"Great Dragon Shock."
A crushing pressure filled the hallway at once.
Shinso's body locked in place. Cold sweat formed on his forehead, and his eyes widened in fury, but his limbs refused to listen.
For a moment, he could not move.
Then Yuto released the force.
Shinso dropped to the floor with a dull thud, breathing hard. His face was pale.
Yuto looked down at him. "It feels bad when your body stops listening to you, doesn't it? Think about that." Shinso had lost. Completely.
Think about that. The words stayed in his mind.
Had he been wrong?
As Yuto turned to leave, Shinso forced himself to speak.
"What's your name?"
"Yuto Kanzaki."
Shinso clenched his teeth.
"You're strong. But I won't give up."
"Good."
Yuto did not stay. The crowd remained frozen behind him.
"What just happened?"
"So we really have no hope. Shinso is the strongest in General Studies, and even he lost."
"Did Shinso get controlled? Isn't his Quirk Brainwashing?"
"That guy's name is Yuto. He might stand out at the Sports Festival."
"Class 1-A really is full of monsters."
"There's still a chance, right? If his power is also some kind of control, maybe his physical ability is weak."
The crowd kept talking. Shinso knew the truth.
Yuto was the rumored strongest student in U.A.
Only someone like that could resist Brainwashing so easily.
So that was the strongest. Damn it. He gritted his teeth.
"At the Sports Festival, I will beat him openly. I will become an even better hero than him."
The odds were terrible. But his dream was still to become a hero.
A hero like Yuto Kanzaki.
After Yuto's silent warning, the crowd slowly dispersed.
Class 1-A was still stunned.
Kirishima clenched his fists, eyes shining.
"Simple and direct. That was so manly. No wonder I look up to you."
Tokoyami nodded. "Well said." Tsuyu blinked. "I didn't expect Yuto-chan's swordsmanship to break through Shinso-chan's Brainwashing."
"Shinso is the strongest first-year in General Studies," someone said. "But he could not do anything in front of Yuto."
"Looks like we need to train harder too."
"Right. I've been waiting for a chance to fight Yuto."
"We can't lose to him forever."
On the way to the cafeteria, Ochaco asked a question.
"Yuu-kun, which hero agency do you want to join in the future? With your strength, a lot of agencies will probably want you."
"Me?" Yuto said. "I don't plan to join one."
Ochaco stared. Yuto explained calmly. "I plan to start my own hero agency someday. The Sports Festival is a good chance to make my name known, and that will help when the time comes."
Ochaco's eyes brightened with admiration.
"Yuu-kun, are you serious?"
"Of course. Are you interested in joining my agency?"
"Of course!" she said at once. "If you build a hero agency, I will join."
"Then I will count on your support."
Yuto smiled faintly. A hero agency was one of his goals, but it would not be easy.
Without reputation, no one would join him.
The Sports Festival was the perfect launchpad.
If his popularity rose, people would come.
Over the next few days, Class 1-A threw itself into intense training. The rest of U.A. did the same.
The U.A. Sports Festival was not just a school event.
It was part of the road to becoming a Pro Hero.
Soon, the day of the competition arrived.
U.A. High School was packed with activity. Reporters surrounded the school gates, their cameras and microphones ready.
"Security is strict this year. Is it because of the recent villain attack?"
"There was a lot of debate about holding the Sports Festival after that, but for us, controversy means attention."
"I heard Class 1-A is the main focus this year."
"Exactly. Usually the third-years draw the most attention because they have experience and refined strategies. This year is different. The first-year division is the one everyone wants to see."
"Because Class 1-A survived the attack?"
"That, and Endeavor's son, Shoto Todoroki, is a first-year."
"You're late to the story. The real reason people are watching is the rumored strongest student in U.A."
"Stronger than Endeavor's son?"
"No one knows. That's why everyone wants to find out."
"Then our job as reporters is simple. Dig up the mystery and find the strongest student."
With the whole country watching, the U.A. Sports Festival began.
