Shan Chui, the Melancholy Cat (Part 6)

They immediately headed back to Shan Chui's weapon shop. Along the way, he told them about his past.

"I used to dream of becoming a comedian," he began. "I performed at a small comedy club, but one day someone in the audience said some terrible things to me. I've felt depressed ever since."

Even so, Shan Chui looked as though he had finally found peace.

"Tanimaki, you've inspired me," he said. "Even though you're completely tone-deaf, you still had the courage to keep singing without giving up. That's truly admirable."

"Nyahahahaha! You're absolutely right, meow!"

Tanimaki swelled with pride at the compliment. As for the part about being called tone-deaf, his brain had conveniently erased it from his memory.

Back at the shop, Shan Chui recommended weapons and armor that best suited each member of the group.

Their equipment was as follows:

A slender sword that is both light and razor-sharp. It enhances the user's speed, allowing them to seize the initiative in battle at all times. However, its attack power is relatively low, making it ill-suited for overpowering enemies through brute force.

A helmet with exceptional defensive power, even in its initial form. As its wearer grows stronger, however, it eventually awakens into its true form—the Demon King's Helm. Once fully evolved, it completely nullifies all mental attacks and dramatically increases the wearer's magical power.

"My head's too big. It won't fit..."

Debiru said sadly.

"Don't worry," Shan Chui replied. "Once you've earned the right to become the next Demon King, it'll fit you perfectly. Until then, just carry it on your back. Even so, it'll still provide plenty of protection."

"Nyahahahaha! You look ridiculous, Debiru, meow."

"Hey! Tanimaki!"

Tanimaki burst into laughter at Debiru's expense, only to be scolded by Ruritel.

These stylish glasses allow the wearer to see clearly even in complete darkness. They can also nullify magical power up to a certain level. However, they are far less effective against opponents with overwhelming magical power.

A fluffy knit sweater featuring a charming off-the-shoulder design. Its irresistible appeal weakens the fighting spirit of anyone who sees it, reducing the force of their attacks and ultimately lowering the physical damage the wearer receives.

"Is this really useful?" Ruritel asked skeptically.

"Don't worry," Shan Chui said calmly. "It'll definitely prove useful. You'll see."

"Ruritel can just hide behind me, meow," Tanimaki said smugly once again.

"That actually makes me feel less safe," Ruritel replied bluntly.

"Thank you very much. Thanks to you, we're finally ready for our journey."

Mayutan thanked Shan Chui and paid for the equipment.

"No, I'm the one who should be thanking you," Shan Chui said with a smile. "I've decided to chase my dream of becoming a comedian once again."

As he spoke, his eyes sparkled like a boy's once more.
