Chapter 1:
The Blue World
[I]
The end was silent. Like snow falling from the sky. Slow and quiet. And when we noticed, the streets were already taken.
At first glance, they are like us, but slightly different. Something subtle, hard to perceive in the rush of our daily lives.
They are taller, slightly bluish, and silent.
We tried to make contact, but they never responded, nor did they move. No matter what we tried, they remained motionless and quiet. Uncommunicative.
"The bluish ones". That's what we called them.
In the begin everyone was afraid, but since they did not seem to pose a threat, we continued our lives.
[II]
They were all around the world. From the great capitals to the most rural areas. Silent and motionless, like human statues mimicking some of our behaviours.
Attempts to make contact continued, but without success.
World leaders met in a session at the UN to discuss the situation. Some advocated a more aggressive approach, while others argued that is was better to leave them alone.
Everyone was afraid of them. Afraid of what they could do. Afraid of the responsability for what might happen.
But they forgot that 'act' was not really in their hands.
[III]
At 10:40 PM, a group of young men armed with iron pipes and bats murdered a bluish one in New York City, USA.
As if connected by an invisible line, the bluish ones contorted their faces in terror, and their bodies assumed poses that expressed fear and confusion, as if silently screaming.
The sudden change in their behaviour reignited the initial fear in people's hearts and protests broke out demanding government action to get rid of the bluish ones.
Without response from the governement, the protests quickly grew violent and more cases os assault and murder against the bluish ones emerged. With each loss, they became more and more distorted, surreal and horrifying.
The police and the army were sent to control the population, but the more repulsive the bluish one's became, more the aversion grew among the population and more violent they became.
The chaos continued for two more nights, until the bluish ones were no longer human like, and then, when the sun rose again, the streets fell silent and life went on, in a bluish world.
