Chapter 1:

A Ballerina’s Solo Performance

A Ballerina's Solo Performance

You are the Prima Ballerina. Tonight is your first performance as a Prima Ballerina on stage in front of three hundred people. The spotlight will be on you and all eyes will be on you catching to see if you make a mistake. During the performance someone will criticize your performance and taking their notes to your director, so the performance you are performing has to be perfect.

On the day the show is to have its opening night, you are practicing your routine on stage alone trying to make these steps perfect. You practice on the main stage hoping no one sees you, so you can have a moment alone to remember all the hard work you need to be in this great position of honor. This moment might be reflecting about you, but all you can do at this moment is shed tears of sorrow remembering a painful memory that occurred one week ago.

Your friend Monica comes in to the theater to supervise and notices you are crying.

“You are thinking about him, aren’t you?” Monica asked, walking down to the stage.

“Yes,” you answer, as you move on to the next steps.

Originally, you are to perform with your boyfriend for the performance, but he is now dead. This show is to showcase the love you have with your boyfriend Jeremey and how far you will go to keep the love you both shared. Tonight is supposed to be a celebration of happiness, but now tonight is a celebration of sorrow.

A week before the performance, you and your boyfriend Jeremy were taking a stroll in the park to spend time together before the rehearsals begin for the show and suddenly there is a shootout between some gang members and the police breaking out in the park. You and Jeremy try running for cover behind some trees, but it was already too late. You did not notice before as you are running for cover, but it seems Jeremy was shot. He tried to protect you from the gunshots by shielding you and tossing you to the ground.

Once you are able to stand up on your own, you see Jeremy lying next to you on the ground while blood is spilling out of his chest. You try to stop the bleeding, but you cannot do anything about it, so you sit there and cry. Then suddenly, you feel Jeremy’s hand grabbing yours and you quickly hold him up to your chest, so his face can see yours. You did not want him to see you crying, so you quickly wipe the tears off your face to get a clear view of him.

Jeremy smiles at your beautiful face being the last thing he will ever see and says, “I love you.” You are overjoyed and you said, “I love you too.” You see Jeremy smiling again and afterwards he passes on. You are left there alone crying your eyes out over Jeremy’s death until the ambulance arrives to take him away.

After the paramedics claimed his body, you head over to the hospital to see him one last time before returning to the theater to put on the show. Later in the hospital, you call the director to explain what happen to Jeremy in the park. The director tells you to return back to the theater to continue rehearsals for the opening show tonight. You listen to your director and return to the theater to hear the rest of the news.

About an hour later, you arrive back to the theater to speak with the director again along with the rest of the cast. He explains it is too late to cancel the show for tonight, so he suggests to you that you do the show with Jeremy’s understudy. You refuse the director’s idea and you decide to change the routine from a duet to a solo. The director thought it would be hard to do the entire routine alone, but on second thought he agrees. The director speaks to the writers of the show to change the duets to solo routines. You thank the director for agreeing to your terms and you return to your rehearsals hoping you can change a duet to a solo.

During your rehearsals, you are remembering the first time you met Jeremy. You met him in the fiction section of the library searching for some inspiration. You find a book on the top shelve and you are about to grab it until you notice a different hand grabbing the same book. You turn your face slightly to the left and you see Jeremy from your troop interested in the same book. Both of you could not stop laughing at this moment, so you decided to share the book with him. You too enjoy this moment together, sharing your interests and things about each other, and spend your time together at the library whenever you can. Since that day at the library, you and Jeremy become an item and promised to love each other always.

Now it is nightfall and the show will continue as planned as a solo routine. You head up the stage to begin practicing your routine. You have to remind focus on the show and you have to keep the pain of losing Jeremy out of your memory, if you want to show to succeed.

At last opening for this show finally arrives, and now it is up to you to make this show great. As the theater is filled to the roof, it is time for the show to start. The show begins with you coming on stage alone and is performing your solo routine for the very first time. You might have felt alone on stage, but you feel strange presence surrounding you. This presence you feel seems so warm and familiar that you begin performing not only your solo routines, but also your duet routines. When you make a spinning turn, you see the ghost of Jeremy performing the duet routine with you. All you can do is shed a small tear of happiness and continue to perform your solo dance with your happy memory of Jeremy and always remembering you are not alone.
