Chapter 55:
En Passant Grandmaster Volume 7
Noa Ben-Horin, age 18. Height: 160 cm. Occupation: High-school student and SPCM. Born in Los Angeles to a Japanese mother and Jewish father, her life has often been defined by her dual cultural heritage. Her mother is a professor of archeology while her father is a grandmaster and works at the WWCF. Though plagued by nerves, Noa inherited the intellects of both her parents, which she utilizes to play chess, and learn new languages. Though not as infamous a polyglot as Okisato, Noa speaks an impressive 7 languages which include, English, Japanese, Hebrew, Yiddish, Spanish, Portugese, and Ladino.
Much like Mimoko, Noa has a rather innocent personality, and is hard to anger. She used to be a bit more outgoing and assertive, but a traumatic event caused her to develop both nerves and antisocial tendencies. Mimoko is one of the few people outside her family she feels relaxed around. Even though she technically is older by a few weeks, she insists on calling Mimoko, Mimoko-nee. And for her part, Mimoko sees her more as a younger sister than someone older than her.
Though she's not very religious and doesn't keep kosher, she does still celebrate some major Jewish holidays like Passover and Hanukkah, and has been bat mitzvahed. Her favorite meal year-round is matzo ball soup. She also enjoys grape juice as well as ramune.
