Chapter 27:

Chapter 27

2.5 billion times

It was a really happy time, we spent most of our time laughing and drinking. However, not everything is flowers. That day, that abominable day came to show us that. It was more of an ordinary mission to patrol in a place, only our unit was sent to fulfill it and it was the normal thing to do, as it was not such an important mission. But what we didn't know is that that place would be invaded by a gigantic group of rebels who were fighting against our government. Without mercy they arrived shooting at our friends, we were just 10 soldiers against an army of 80 men. We tried to run away, but many were left on the ground, without looking back Dean and I ran between the trees in the place. I can remember perfectly as I ran, Dean's terrified face is still etched in my mind, he saw all the friends he spent a lot of time happy with them dying right in front of him. (Mike)

“-Run Dean! Just think about running! (Mike)”

It was really an unfortunate situation, a bullet hits him in the back, causing him to fall to the ground. In order to protect him I faced whoever shot and killed him, there were 4 more enemies next to that one which I also eliminated. I quickly went to Dean to provide first aid, but I saw that the situation was a little more complicated than I thought, the bullet had punctured his lung. (Mike)

“-Mike... I'm having trouble breathing what's going on? (Dean)

Grabbing Dean's hand, Mike holds it tightly as he looks for someone who could help them. Unfortunately they were alone and there was no sign of life there.

-It's okay Dean, everything will be fine. Okay, just try not to move too much and talk, okay? (Mike)

-Mike... (Dean)

Spilling tears from his eyes, Dean despairs.

-I don't want to die, I'm scared. (Dean)

-You're not going to die! Listen, I'm here and I won't let this happen. (Mike)

-It's getting cold, I don't want to die. (Dean)

-I already told you... (Mike)

-Where are you? (Dean)

-Huh? (Mike)

-Hey Mike, where did you go? (Dean)

-I'M ON YOUR SIDE DEAN! I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU SO DON'T WORRY! (Mike)

- Please Mike comes back. It's so dark in here, I'm scared, I don't want to be alone. (Dean)

-I'M HERE WITH YOU!! (Mike)

-I'm so scared, it's so cold. Why you left? (Mike)

Mike tightens his grip on his friend's hand to try to make him realize he was by his side.

-I AM HERE!! CAN YOU HEAR ME DEAN?!! I AM HERE! (Mike)

-I'm so scared, scared, scared... scared... (Dean)

Seeing her last breaths, Mike's face fills with tears. That day was etched in his memories, his friend could neither see nor hear any of his screams, believing until the end that he was alone and that Mike had abandoned him.”

Looking up at the sky Mike chuckles lightly as he realizes his vision is gone.

-Dean you bastard, it's really cold here. (Mike)

With his eyes slowly fading, he had the opportunity to remember one last thing before he left.

“It's been a few months since I haven't been back to this place. Looks like I've been transferred to another group, as my old one isn't left. There were two survivors besides me, but they both asked to move away and started a new life far away from here. (Mike)

Stopping in front of his new dorm, Mike reflected a little and with a serious look he enters the place. Upon entering he noticed a heavy atmosphere, everyone who was there had serious and somber looks.

Look at them, all this depression in the air, a group like that won't last a second in the war. They're hopeless, there's no way they can survive. (Mike)

Mike takes two more steps and catches everyone's attention.

-HEY HEY HEY! Why are you with these faces?! Don't worry about anything. Because the big Mike it's here!! (Mike)”

With his eyes lifeless, Mike's body was left in the middle of that forest, as well as his best friend's body. Little by little snow was accumulating next to his corpse, it seems that it would be a very cold winter for his friends who were still alive.
