Chapter 21:
Welcome to the Republic of Meows!
"He's also hopelessly shy when it comes to romance, so he can't even find a potential wife. At this rate, there'll be no heir to carry on the family business. Our item shop—and even our inn—will have to close with his generation."
Erab looked at Mayutan and the others with pleading eyes.
"Leave it to us! We'll figure something out!" Mayutan declared confidently.
"Are you sure about that, meow?" Tanimaki asked skeptically.
They decided to call it a day and start giving Filder romantic advice the next morning.
"Just hug her and kiss her, meow! Girls like a guy who's a little bold, meow."
Despite having never dated a woman himself, Tanimaki confidently dished out irresponsible advice. The group had even come all the way to Filder's item shop just to give him dating advice.
"You'll get arrested!" Debiru shot back.
"Then, when Cecil reaches for one of the items, casually take her hand, meow," Tanimaki continued.
"That's straight out of an old-school teen drama," Debiru sighed.
"Every idea you have makes girls want to run away."
Mayutan let out an exasperated sigh. Even after being reincarnated as a cat, Tanimaki still thought exactly the same way.
"Then I'll write the love letter for you, meow."
Undeterred, Tanimaki kept trying to help.
"...Are you sure that's a good idea?" Debiru asked suspiciously.
Ignoring everyone's concerns, Tanimaki turned over one of the shop's flyers and began drafting a love letter on the back. Once he finished, he proudly read it aloud.
"Cecil, you're my sunshine, meow. A good wife always stands behind her husband, meow. Housework is a woman's job, meow. Childcare is a woman's job, too, meow. A real man doesn't change diapers, meow. As for me, all I need to say is, 'Dinner.' 'Beer.' 'Bed.' And when I come home, you'll say, 'Welcome home, darling. Dinner? A bath? Or... me?' Meow."
"Nobody says that anymore!" Debiru snapped.
"And what century are you living in?" Mayutan groaned.
"Maybe you should try changing your hairstyle or wearing something more fashionable?" Debiru suggested.
Realizing Tanimaki was completely hopeless, Debiru decided to offer some actual advice.
"You idiot, meow! Real men don't follow trends, meow!"
Tanimaki stubbornly clung to his hopelessly outdated beliefs. Why he got so worked up about it was anyone's guess.
"In the end, none of those ideas matter if you don't have the courage to talk to her."
Mayutan finally got to the heart of the problem.
"I've got it!"
Suddenly, an idea flashed into Mayutan's mind.
What had he come up with?
