Chapter 0:

Chapter 1 :The Quiet Disappearance

“The Girl Who Never Unloved Him”

The hardest part wasn’t losing him. It was learning how to breathe in a world where his presence existed only in memories.

I was never that girl, the mature one, the gentle one, the easy-to-love kind. Not until he walked into my life.

At first, I didn’t notice the change. But little by little, something inside me began to bloom. My laughter came easier. My heart felt lighter. There were moments when it felt like I wasn’t walking through life anymore; I was floating somewhere between reality and a dream.

He was never just a person to me. He became a feeling. A home I didn’t know I had been searching for. In his presence, I discovered parts of myself I had never met before: the softer girl, the careful soul, the version of me that loved deeply and without fear. He was the only one my heart chose without hesitation.

Before him, love was just a word. Happiness was distant, something I only watched from afar. The world felt ordinary, colourless, and incomplete.

Then there was him.

He became the reason behind my smiles, the quiet answer to my prayers, the name my heart whispered in every moment of hope. I didn’t just want him.

I asked for him.

Again and again.

As if he were the only miracle I had ever believed in.

And maybe that’s where everything began… not with a grand moment, not with a perfect confession, but with something quiet. Something so small I almost didn’t notice it the way his name started to feel different in my chest.

It was strange how someone could enter your life so normally, like just another passing moment, and then slowly become the centre of everything without you realising it. One conversation turned into hours. Hours turned into nights I didn’t want to end. And somewhere between those words and silences, I lost the version of myself that didn’t need him.

I told myself not to fall. Not to hold him too close, not to trust him too deeply, not to love him in a way that could break me. Somewhere inside, I already knew if I gave my heart to him, I would lose pieces of myself I might never get back.

So I tried to step back.

But in trying not to lose him, I started losing myself.

My smile faded in ways I didn’t understand. The lightness I once felt slowly disappeared. And the girl I was becoming, the soft, loving version of me that only existed because of him, began to slip away, as if she had never been mine to keep.

I tried to convince myself I didn’t need him. Not his messages, not his voice, not even something as simple as his "hi". But no matter how hard I tried, I found myself searching for him in every quiet moment. Because deep down, I knew if I let myself fall, I wouldn’t be able to stop.

So I held back. I stepped away. I tried to protect myself from something that felt too real, too consuming. But in doing that, I lost something just as important.

I lost the version of me that smiled because of him. The version that felt light, alive, and full of something I couldn’t name. It was as if that part of me only existed when he was close, and without him, it slowly faded away.

And maybe that was my mistake. I thought I could protect my heart without losing pieces of myself. But some loves don’t break you when you fall…

They break you when you try not to. And the truth is, I noticed the distance before it was ever spoken out loud.

It wasn’t sudden. It didn’t arrive like a storm that tears everything apart in one night. It was quieter than that, almost invisible. A slow fading. A pause where there used to be excitement. A silence where there used to be endless conversations.

At first, I told myself I was imagining it. Maybe he was just busy. Maybe life was pulling him in directions I couldn’t see. Maybe I was overthinking, like I always did. I held onto every “maybe” like it could protect me from the truth I was too afraid to face.

But deep down, I felt it. The way his words started to feel different. The way his presence no longer wrapped around me the same way. The way I began to miss him… even when he was still there.

That was the moment I should have understood Some people don’t leave all at once. They leave in pieces. In shorter replies. In delayed messages. In the absence of effort. And somehow, that kind of leaving hurts more… because you feel it happening, but you can’t stop it.

I tried to hold on without holding too tight. I tried to act normal, to be the same girl he had once chosen. I laughed when I didn’t feel like it. I stayed when every part of me wanted to ask, “Are you still here?”

But I never asked.

Because I was afraid of the answer. Afraid that if I gave my fears a voice, they would become real. And I wasn’t ready to lose something that had already become a part of me.

So I stayed quiet. I loved him quietly. I missed him quietly. I broke quietly. And maybe that’s the saddest part of all: how something that once made me feel so alive slowly became the reason I felt so empty.

There were nights I stared at my phone, reading old conversations like they were memories from another lifetime. I would scroll back to the beginning, to the moments where everything felt easy, where his words held warmth, where I didn’t have to question anything.

Back when I didn’t feel like I was losing him. Back when I didn’t feel like I was losing myself. I wondered what changed.

Was it him? Or was it me? Did I love too much? Care too deeply? Expect something that was never meant to last?

Or was this always the way it was going to end… and I was just too blinded by love to see it? That question stayed with me. It followed me through my days and haunted my nights. It lived in every silence between us, in every message that felt a little colder than the last. And still, I stayed.

Because even when everything in me was breaking, a part of me kept hoping.

Hoping that he would come back the way he once was. Hoping that the distance was temporary. Hoping that love like this couldn’t just disappear. But love doesn’t always leave loudly.

Sometimes, it fades so gently… you don’t even realise it’s gone until all you’re left with is memories.

And by then

It’s already too late to hold on.
