Mayutan's Love (Part 3)

At two in the morning, the Cat God was said to appear. Until then, they temporarily tied Tanimaki and Debiru to a large granite boulder nearby.

The Cat Shrine had reportedly been built in the very year the Republic of Meows was founded. Though the sacred rope had faded with age, the shrine grounds were impeccably maintained, making it clear how deeply the local residents cherished the place. The carved wooden gable was adorned with majestic carvings reminiscent of a lion and a tiger. Despite their fierce appearance, the two beasts also possessed an undeniable charm.

"It's almost two o'clock. Come forth, Cat God!"

Mayutan eagerly wiggled his eyebrows as he waited for the Cat God's appearance.

The moment the clock struck two, thick white smoke billowed up from all around them, engulfing the entire shrine. Neither of them could see a thing.

"I am the Cat God... What is your wish?"

With his vision completely obscured, Mayutan couldn't tell what the Cat God looked like. Still, it seemed the deity had finally appeared.

"Um... we'd like to have some Libera Fruit," Mayutan said.

"Very well. How many would you like?"

"Huh?"

Mayutan and Aneta exchanged puzzled glances. This wasn't what they had been told. Wasn't the Cat God supposed to give them a quiz?

"You're not going to give us a quiz?" Mayutan asked.

"No. I have to visit my wife's parents early tomorrow morning. I need to get to bed."

Apparently, even the Cat God could oversleep if he didn't get enough rest.

"How lucky! Then let's get our Libera Fruit right away!" Aneta said excitedly.

But Mayutan frowned.

"No, please give us a quiz, Cat God!"

Mayutan felt that receiving the reward without solving a quiz would be far too unsatisfying, so he made a request that no ordinary person ever would.
