Chapter 26:
Master of the Cosmos: Dimension Chaos
The morning sun cast long shadows across the city as Xen made his way to the central hub. The new ocean pulsed overhead, its light warm and reassuring, but Xen could feel the undercurrent of something darker stirring beneath its surface.
The Architects said the Old Ones are returning. They said we have years, perhaps decades. But I can feel it—the tension in the air, the subtle shifts in the dimensional energy. It's already beginning.
I need to prepare. I need to gather my allies. I need to make sure we're ready.
The central hub was bustling with activity. Engineers and technicians worked on the conduit, their faces focused and determined. Soldiers patrolled the perimeter, their weapons ready. And at the center of it all, Lira stood directing the efforts, her voice sharp and commanding.
"Lira," Xen called out, approaching her. "We need to talk."
She turned to face him, her blue eyes—so like her mother's—sharp with concern. "Papa? What's wrong? You look troubled."
"I am troubled." He placed a hand on her shoulder, his grip firm. "The Old Ones are returning. The Architects told me last night."
Lira's face went pale. "The Old Ones? But we defeated them. We destroyed the dimensional ocean. How can they—"
"They weren't destroyed. They were only pushed back. And now they're gathering their strength, rebuilding their forces." Xen's voice was grim. "We have years, maybe decades. But we need to be ready."
"How do we prepare for something like that?"
Xen was silent for a moment, the weight of the question pressing down on him.
"We do what we've always done. We fight. We survive. And we never give up." He squeezed her shoulder. "But first, we need to gather our allies. We need to strengthen the new ocean. And we need to find a way to permanently stop the Old Ones."
"How?"
"I don't know yet. But I'll find out." He smiled, a hint of the old fire in his eyes. "I always do."

The gathering of allies took months.
Xen traveled across the world, meeting with leaders of settlements and enclaves, sharing the news of the Old Ones' return and asking for their support. Some were hesitant, their memories of the dimensional collapse still fresh. Others were eager to fight, their determination fueled by the losses they had suffered.
But all of them agreed to join the alliance.
"We remember what you did for us, Xen," one leader said, his voice rough with emotion. "You saved our world. You gave us a future. We won't forget that."
"I'm not asking you to forget," Xen said. "I'm asking you to fight. To protect what we've built. To make sure the Old Ones never take it away."
"Then we'll fight." The leader extended his hand. "Together."
Xen shook it, a sense of purpose filling him.
We're not alone. We have allies. We have friends. We have people who believe in us.
Together, we can face anything.

The strengthening of the new ocean was a more delicate task.
Xen worked with Lyra, the dimensional anchor, and the Architects to reinforce the conduit and expand the new ocean's protective reach. It was painstaking work, requiring immense concentration and energy. But slowly, painstakingly, they made progress.
"The new ocean is growing stronger," Lyra reported one evening, her silver eyes bright with exhaustion. "It's extending its protection to more worlds. But it's not enough. Not yet."
"What do we need?" Xen asked.
"More anchors. More conduits. More connections to the multiverse." She paused, her expression troubled. "And more power. The new ocean needs energy to grow. Energy that we don't have."
Xen was silent for a long moment, the weight of her words pressing down on him.
"What if we could find a new source of energy? Something that could power the new ocean and strengthen it beyond anything we've seen?"
Lyra's eyes widened. "Where would we find such a thing?"
"I don't know. But the Architects might." He turned to look at the new ocean, his gray eyes filled with determination. "I'm going to ask them."

The Architects' response was immediate.
"There is a source," they said, their voices echoing in Xen's mind. "A wellspring of dimensional energy at the heart of the multiverse. It is the origin of all creation, the birthplace of the dimensional ocean itself."
"But it is guarded. Protected by the last remnants of the Old Ones' servants."
"To reach it, you will have to fight."
Xen felt a cold certainty settle over him.
Of course. Nothing worth having is ever easy.
"Where is it?" he asked. "How do I find it?"
"We will guide you. But the journey is dangerous. You will need to be strong, fast, and determined."
"And you will need to bring your most trusted allies."
Xen nodded slowly, feeling the weight of the mission settle on his shoulders.
Another journey. Another battle. Another sacrifice.
But this time, I know what I'm fighting for. And I'm not going to let anything stop me.
"I'll go," he said. "And I'll bring my allies. We'll find this wellspring, and we'll use it to protect the multiverse."
"We will guide you, Seventh Candidate. But the rest is up to you."
