Chapter 57:
Master of the Cosmos: Dimension Chaos
The Council of Explorers had been operational for two years when the first reports of trouble began to surface.
Lira sat in the council chamber, her brow furrowed as she read the latest intelligence reports. Explorers from the outer reaches of the network had reported strange occurrences—worlds that had gone silent, civilizations that had vanished without a trace, energy signatures that appeared and disappeared like ghosts.
"What do you make of this?" she asked, turning to Lyra.
The dimensional anchor studied the data, her silver eyes troubled. "I don't know. It's unlike anything we've ever encountered. The worlds aren't being destroyed—they're just... empty. As if all life has been drained from them."
"Drained? By what?"
"That's the question, isn't it?" Kaela's voice was sharp. "We've destroyed the Old Ones. We've contained the Primordial Ones. There should be nothing left that could do this."
"Then we need to find out what's responsible." Lira's voice was firm. "We need to investigate these worlds and determine what happened to them."
[WARNING: UNKNOWN THREAT DETECTED]

[STATUS: ACTIVE]
[THREAT LEVEL: EXTREME]
[RECOMMENDATION: INVESTIGATE IMMEDIATELY]
The investigation team assembled quickly.
Lira led the group—Valeria, Kaela, Lyra, and a dozen of the council's best fighters. They traveled to the outer reaches of the network, to the first of the affected worlds.
It was a graveyard.
The world's surface was covered in the ruins of a once-thriving civilization. Buildings lay in ruins, their structures crumbling. And there was no sign of life—no movement, no sound, no energy.
"It's like everything was drained," Lyra said, her voice hushed. "Every living thing. Every trace of dimensional energy. It's all gone."
Lira reached out with her senses, feeling the emptiness of the world. And there, at the edge of her awareness, she felt something that made her blood run cold.
A presence. Faint, but unmistakable. Something is still here. Watching us.
"Get back!" she shouted, pushing Valeria behind her. "It's coming!"

The darkness surged forward, a wave of void that swallowed everything in its path. Lira raised her hands, the network's power blazing, and pushed back against the tide.
"SEVENTH CANDIDATE," a voice whispered, cold and hungry. "NO. YOU ARE NOT THE SEVENTH CANDIDATE. YOU ARE HIS DAUGHTER. A FRAGMENT OF A FRAGMENT."
"I'm enough," Lira said, her voice cold. "I'm more than enough."
"YOU CANNOT STOP US. WE ARE THE HUNGER. THE CONSUMPTION. THE END OF ALL THINGS."
"Not while I'm standing."
Lira attacked, her power blazing. The darkness recoiled, its form flickering. But it was fast, faster than she had expected.
"You can't defeat me," it hissed. "I am the hunger that existed before the Old Ones. The consumption that existed before the Primordial Ones. I am the end of all things."
"Then I'll destroy you," Lira said, her voice fierce. "Just like I destroyed everything else."
The battle was brutal and intense. Lira fought with everything she had, her attacks blazing. The creature struck back, its dark energy relentless.
But Lira was stronger. Faster. More determined.
"I'm not my father," she said, her voice steady. "But I learned from him. And I know that the only way to defeat darkness is to never give up."
She channeled her power into a single, devastating attack, a blast of light that struck the creature's heart.
"NO!" it shrieked. "I WILL RETURN! I WILL ALWAYS RETURN!"
The creature dissolved into nothing, its form scattering like ash in the wind.
Silence fell over the world.

Lira collapsed to her knees, gasping for breath. Valeria was beside her instantly, her arms around her.
"Lira, are you okay? What was that?"
"The hunger," Lira said, her voice barely a whisper. "A force that existed before the Old Ones. Before the Primordial Ones. Something ancient and terrible."
"And you defeated it?"
"I pushed it back. But it's not destroyed. It'll return."
"How do you know?"
"Because I felt it. It's not like the Old Ones or the Primordial Ones. It's something else. Something that can't be destroyed—only contained."
Lira looked up at her mother, her blue eyes filled with determination. "We need to find a way to contain it. Permanently."

The journey back to the council chamber was quiet, filled with the weight of what they had discovered.
Lira sat in her quarters, staring out at the new ocean, her mind racing with the implications of the hunger.
The hunger existed before the Old Ones. Before the Primordial Ones. It's ancient, terrible, and it can't be destroyed—only contained.
How do I contain something that's been around since the beginning of time?
Papa, what do I do?
The question hung in the air, unanswered.
But then she felt it—a warmth in her chest, a presence at the edge of her awareness.
Papa?
"I'm here, Lira. I've always been here."
I don't know what to do. The hunger—it's beyond anything I've faced.
"You're not facing it alone, Lira. You have the network. You have your allies. And you have the Echoes."
The Echoes?
"They were the first beings of the multiverse. They know about the hunger. They can help you."
How do I reach them?
"The same way you reached them before. Through the crystal. Through the connection they left behind."
Thank you, Papa. I'll try.
"I know you will. You're strong, Lira. Stronger than you know."
