Chapter 2:

New life a year later

The Sleepy Mage who was Forced to Travel

The Strongest Mage, Pointed hat of the Kingdom of RyvenーEilise Frediereke has disappeared…!?

So, did she die? Was she killed, or even neglected her duties…? If in the possibility she did, then how could she just leave her position like that? Does she know the weight and responsibility of her job?! She’s a Pointed hat!!! Meant to keep the kingdom safe!! With the purpose to create magic that will revolutionizeー,

“ーblah blah blah, I don’t wanna hear it…..” I muttered to myself while sitting at my desk.

No, I did not die. No, I didn't resign. Rather I vanished to live a simple and quiet life… Why…? Because I'm lazy, sleepy all the time, and a Pointed hat who doesn’t fulfill her duties and many other things they say.

And to be honest, I just hate it when people expect highly of me. I’m only a human, and I make mistakes… At least… cut me some slack…

Exhaling, I stared at the window as clouds formed into shapesーwith the wind blowing the window curtains. And there I thought. This was much better than what I used to see three years ago.

Like the only sceneries in the capital were buildings and civilians, and not a single green in sight, aside from beyond the walls. It’s a staggering difference, plus it’s not like I’ll be missing it anyway….

I shook my head, taking the cup and sipping my tea, exhaling in relief.

Since last year, I’ve been living in my house which was located in the same village as beforeーthe marketplace is only separated by a twenty minute walk…

I had constructed this house around the time I submitted the request from his highness, and I’m currently hiding under a fake name. Whenever I go to the market I make sure to regularly put on a disguise and change my voiceーbecoming a commoner student from my former academy.

To make this real and legitimate, I sent a mail asking for permission from his highness to construct a fake ID.

And there… That's how Pointed hat Eilise Frediereke disappeared.

Frankly speaking, It was one of my best decisions, and it's been nicer and more peaceful than, quiet and so on… before… Quite the contrast if we compare…

Well, speaking of contrast, my room on the other hand was a mess. Behind me was a mountain full of paperーspread everywhere across the floor. Super messy and I mean, clustered into oblivion…

Well… It’s not like I’m obligated to clean it up, I can pick up whatever I want using magic. Still, my blood is boiling to remove it all up.

My brows furrowed. I’ll do that later, considering I need to do the reports for his highness. And I promised a schedule…

I placed my cup down, stood up from my chair and looked at my feetーthe stacks of paper flooded the ground, so much that I couldn't see the marbled wooden floor from all the mess.

….You know what, maybe I should clean the room. But I'm so tired…

I yawned, covering my mouth. Slouching my shoulder and scratching my back, I squatted down and ran my hands through countless papers until eventually my arms got tired from all the digging.

Exhaling, I straightened my posture. Yeah, this is going nowhere. Hmm… Should I use it? It’s gonna make more of a mess but…

I stood up from the floor and raised a finger.

“Vas.” A gust of wind sent the papers flying in the airーOut of all that began descending down, one paper levitated, glowing in blue light which illuminated the entire corner of the room.

I took the paper from the air, looking at its contents. And it was exactly what I needed.

Okay, this is the one. Perfect! Time to write a whole report and then sleep the whole day!!

Then suddenly, I heard a knock at the door and startled me, recoiling from the noise...

I exhaled, slouching my shoulders, my brows furrowing from irritation.

Great, who's this one now?! I’ve already had a few knocks for the past month, every single one of them were advertisements. It’s gotten to the point where I’m gonna blast whoever this is that’s knocking. I’m busy right now!!

I grunted.

But I don’t have a choice, I’ll turn down whatever this is…

I let go of the paper, freezing it in the air and summoned my guise without chantingーMaking my way to the front door, opened it and peeked to the side, and there.

My world froze…

I saw my worst nightmare…

“Uhm, you areー?” A short, brunette with a one sided ponytail, wearing a dark red robe with a metal badge on her right side stood in front of my door.

The color of the hair, a ponytail, brownish eyes. This badge, this robe, I recognize all of it… It’s from my former education; Vernhuld’s Academy.

ーWhat do you know? How ironic… THIS PERSON IS MY BEST FRIEND. MARIEKA LUITGARD WHO’S BEEN WITH ME FOR A YEAR IN THE ACADEMY!! Oh Great Sage, this has to happen to me doesn't it? How I yearn to punch this world straight in the face... WHY IS SHE HERE??!!! I have to act natural, like a normal person. Focus…

“Is there something you need…? You are a Vernhuld student, right?”

Marieka tried to look behind the door. “Oh… Sorry to bother you but… A shopkeeper told me a student was here, so I wanted to visit a classmate that was living in this area!”

“Really? I’m sorry but, you must be from a noble family… I’m only a commoner, so I can’t reallyー”

She waved her hand. “ーNo no! I’m not like that… I’m here to say hello regardless or not! I’m okay with people regardless of them being commoners or not.”

“I… Is that so? Uhm, I’m sorry and pardon me, but right now I’m… Busy,” I said anxiously.

“Oh!! Are you perhaps doing homework? My name is Marieka Luitgard! What’s yours?”

“Verieka Heitey, a commoner just enrolling in the school…”

I hid one of my arms behind my back and summoned the fake ID to my handーshowing it to her with confidence. Marieka’s expression shot up.

“Nice to meet you! Actually… I could help with your homework! I’m starting my 4th year~~ You’re a first year yeah? I’ll help out!”

“W… woah, you're a 4th year student? That's incredible... Thank you for the offer but uhm. It’s not a problem… I can handle this much.” I slowly hid behind the door, closing it ever so slightly.

My heart was racing, I was nervous… Stiff to the point where I could only hide it behind the door.

I REALLY don’t want her in… Please!! I don't want my cover to be blown!!!! Why out of all the people, she’d be the one to visit this kind of place…? I thought no Vernhuld student would visit this village. Did she sneak out of her house again…??!

Gulping, my jaw tightened.

I really need to get out of here, any longer and she might catch up.

“I’m really busy right now… Miss Marieka… I’m so sorry. We could do this another time soon, but l’m like… Yeah,” Hesitating, my face was sweatingーyet I had to keep my composure regardless.

“Uhm… Really? Then, that's a shame…” She frowned.

I cleared my throat. “W… Well then, please take care Miss. Marieka! Have a good day,” I slowly pulled the door.

Oh my goodness… Phew, I’m glad I got out of that situation... I can’t bring her in, or else I might get exposed. But I’m really in a hurry though, not even joking… sorry Marieka! Maybe next timeー,

“ーEilise… I know it’s you,” She narrowed her eyes, staring at me dead in the eyes.

I stopped closing the door mid-way and froze, my eyes opened.

N… No way. Please don’t tell me…

“…It’s you, isn’t it? You can’t fool me. Eilise.”
