Chapter 3:

One's Training is Another's Operation

Zayobi: Chronicles of the Daybreak War

After more celebrations and speeches by others, plus gifts from people who either didn’t know, or forgot someone else had already given to her before, the day ended.

Zayobi went to sleep.

Only…

She had woken up, so naturally to the point one would believe she had been counting the seconds in her dreams, at exactly four in the morning.

I’m fine with believing food tastes better when you work for it or when you realize how hard someone worked for it to be served, and add to that their unwavering conviction to satisfy their princess into that too, but I’m the only one who steps up for Hallowed Strawberries.

She walked to her dresser and simply rested her hand on a red blazer reminiscent of a military uniform with an opening at the hem. The piece of clothing melted into the air with crimson particles before appearing on top of her, replacing her nightgown.

She did the same to at least five handmade maps scattered in a drawer next to it, yet they completely vanished.

She brought her palm to the empty gem at her chest. “At least you don’t need a Creation to be able to dematerialize and take objects. I guess Kamiko’s glove metaphor is accurate.”

Even in this dark room, Zayobi stepped toward her large window, beating the sun by a few minutes.

Alright: Castle, castle town, city, inner forest border, and carriage routes. I got hard enough shoes for the terrain and they’re also elegant enough to not arouse questions about the princess’ unbefitting footwear.

She took a single glance, moving the curtains as little as possible, then let out a “yes!” upon seeing a figure with a shining crimson greatsword in what seemed like a training field. Surrounding the heavy wielder were tens of soldiers, at least fifty just from what Zayobi peeked.

“Thank you so much sis! You think I’m a sleepyhead like Sgura but you’d never guess I too wake up for work this early.” The princess spoke to herself.

All that remains is to lock my door and wait for the “sunrise.” Though it is bittersweet my maps’ usage is going down, it just means the tests I had with them birthed results.

She grabbed a red, metallic round object lying next to the window.

“And thanks again for this birthday gift, Kamiko.”

She grabbed the disk with an empty center, the chakram.

Form is such a limitless Divine Creation. Every Flame Soul can transform and take matter into their spirit, but being able to create objects with such magnificence, and imbue them with so much Spiritual Energy too...

Zayobi sighed before grinning. It wasn’t a lie when I said that a chakram that stores and charges Energy would be the optimal self-defense weapon for a princess like me.

“Anyway...”

She peeked through the curtains again. This time, however...

A magnitude of the soldiers lay on the ground, the still-great number who remained on their feet, however, glowed in a blood-red light.

And in the middle, the woman with a greatsword radiating light brighter than all of the soldiers’ auras combined. Even from the faraway glance Zayobi had from up high, she could spot burning ashes in the wind, all originating from the swordswoman.

It was clear that the blade continued to heat up, still in the process of awakening from light to a flame.

As the yard below her neared being encompassed, Zayobi raised the curtains and swung the window open.

She took a stance, firmly gripping the chakram.

Okay, dematerialize at the tips of my fingers. The throw can fail, what’s important is successfully grabbing on.

She held it up with her fingers.

I saw Kamiko train with the soldiers in what I believe was pure-power disk throwing, but with this thing all I need to do is spin it on my finger.

Left leg forward, chakram on her right hand, she began moving her arm in a circular motion.

Mere moments after she began...

The whole field outside the window emanated a crimson light, clearly a league above the approaching yellow rays of the sun.

That’s my distraction!

Zayobi hurled the chakram, and seemed to vanish the second it left her finger.

Success! I’m on it!

The circular blade tore through the air as it glided, but not only that.

The scorching air, not to mention the explosions continuously erupting below and creating shockwaves, only added height to the light piece of metal.

Kamiko never would’ve imagined I’d be utilizing her gift with her own powers. It being made from her Spiritual Energy means even the guards on the highest of alerts would mistake this as some part of her Divine Creation, some weapon she created using Form.

The girl who was now only a voice inside a chakram laughed to herself.

I bet even our kingdom’s elite weavers of Spiritual Energy wouldn’t be able to sense my soul inside this piece of metal without directly pouring their own into it. And what luck that my room is directly facing the border with the Hallowed Forest.

“Hallowed Strawberries here I come!”
