Chapter 2:
NO RESPAWN POINTS AT HOME, SO I'M CLAIMING MY BOYFRIEND'S BED AS MY NEW SPAWN POINT!
A few days into Lana's "extended stay," our supplies began to dwindle. The fridge, once a bastion of questionable delights, now echoed with emptiness. "Kai, we're out of everything," she declared one morning, peering into the barren shelves with a dramatic frown. "Time to venture into the wilds. This is our first real quest."
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, still in my pajamas. "Grocery shopping? That's more side mission than main quest."
She grinned, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Not if we make it a JRPG raid. You tank the crowds, I'll DPS the deals. Gear up!"
And so, The Grocery Quest began. We bundled up—her still in my hoodie, now her default armor—and headed to the local supermarket, a sprawling labyrinth of aisles and fluorescent lights that felt like entering a mid-level dungeon. Carts were our mounts, squeaky wheels announcing our arrival like a fanfare.
Lana took the lead, darting ahead with the cart like a rogue scouting traps. "Loot spotted!" she'd yell, grabbing random items off shelves: cups of instant ramen in exotic flavors, bags of weird-flavored chips (wasabi-pea? Sign me up), and a pack of gummies shaped like fantasy monsters. "These are health potions," she insisted, tossing them in.
I played the tank role, "guarding" the cart from other shoppers who wandered too close. "Incoming mob—elderly lady with coupons," I whispered, steering us away. We turned it into a game: assigning stats to items, debating "drop rates" on sales. By the produce section, she was juggling apples like orbs of power, testing their "durability." "This one's got high defense—perfect for pie bombs!"
The bakery aisle became a mini-boss: fresh bread smells luring us in. "Trap detected," I joked as she grabbed a loaf. "That's gonna add to our encumbrance."
Checkout was the final boss battle: a long line snaking like a dragon, scanners beeping like attack pings. Our haul was chaotic—impulse buys galore, from mochi ice cream to a bizarre energy drink flavor she'd never tried. The total flashed on the screen, higher than expected, but her triumphant smile made it worth every penny.
Back home, we unpacked like victors dividing spoils, bags rustling as we stocked shelves. "Epic win," she said, munching on a gummy straight from the pack. "EXP gained, inventory restocked. What's our next upgrade?" The kitchen filled with laughter, her energy turning the mundane errand into a legendary tale we'd retell for days.
