The Fortune-Teller, Wada Tsun (Part 3)

“What? So Tanimaki really used to be human?” Debiru asked in surprise.

“It’s hard to believe, but it seems to be true,” Mayutan said, raising and lowering his eyebrows.

The two of them had seen the serious look on Tanimaki’s face, and now they were certain he had not been lying.

Tanimaki held out his paw pad to Tsun, and Tsun quietly took it in his hand. Then he took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began to concentrate. The room fell completely silent.

A few seconds later, Tsun slowly opened his eyes and gazed at Tanimaki.

“You cannot return to being human.”

Tsun delivered the shocking truth.

“Meow? I can’t go back? Then what’s gonna happen to me, meow?”

“Because you were not originally a resident of this world, your life will likely come to an end three months from now.”

When Tanimaki heard that, his knees began to tremble with fear.

“N-no way, meow… That can’t be true, meow…”

Tanimaki desperately tried to tell himself that, but his face had gone pale.

“There is only one way for you to survive. You must use the Nyaon Jar. That jar possesses the power to change the very rules of this world.”

Tsun said this with a serious expression. However, the Nyaon Jar was in Undo’s possession.

“It’s okay, Tanimaki! We just have to defeat Undo and get the Nyaon Jar!”

Debiru said that to comfort Tanimaki, but how on earth were they supposed to defeat Undo?

Mayutan noticed a locket pendant lying on the floor. The locket was open, and the photograph of a woman could be seen inside.

“Who is this?”

Mayutan picked up the pendant and handed it to Tsun.

“This is my master. Her name was Asukachi. She was killed by Undo.”

Tsun said this with a sorrowful expression.

“By Undo? Why?” Mayutan asked.

“Long ago, Asukachi once read Undo’s fortune. I do not know what the result of that reading was. However, it seems to have been something Undo could not accept. Undo blamed her for it and killed her.”

As Tsun said this, tears streamed down his face.
