Chapter 1:
RNB - Kage no Shinsengumi
That night, the howling blizzard that haunted the mountains of Norilsk. A young man walked through the mountains, leaving footprints with every step he took. His crimson-red eyes shimmered with a diamond-like blue glow, while the wind blew through his hair, contrasting between black and white. A long bag was strapped across his back. The young man's name was Dimitri, and he walked through the thunderous snowfall.
Just after the snowfall had subsided, he spotted a group of heavily armed men approaching from the opposite direction. As they passed each other, Dimitri spoke to one of them. In a polite and respectful tone, he asked, "Umm... excuse me, sir." One of the armed men responded to him. "Do you happen to know someone named Nandra?" he asked. "Umm... yes," the man replied, looking confused. "How does a green kid like you know my name?" The man was Nandra himself, confirming his own identity. He became suspicious of the boy and began gripping the weapon slung over his shoulde "So, here's the thing, sir," Dimitri continued politely. Nandra immediately listened. "Someone is looking for you."
"Huh?" Nandra asked in confusion. "Who? Hurry up and tell me. I don't have much time."
The young man reached for the bottom of his bag and swiftly unclasped its fastening. A katana slid out of the bag and he caught it instantly. He drew the blade and, in one swift motion, slashed the neck of the man named Nandra.
Warm blood gushed out, staining the white snow that night. The surroundings suddenly fell silent. The only voice that broke the silence was the general's as he muttered, "The Grim Reaper!" with a crazed expression and a low yet chilling tone, as if he had just hit the jackpot after playing hide-and-seek for two weeks. Dimitri suddenly turned toward the remaining members of the group with a terrifying smile. The men immediately panicked and tried to ready their weapons. Unfortunately for them, Dimitri had already dashed forward. He struck at his enemies' weak points, leaving splashes of blood across his katana. The sounds of flesh being torn, screams of agony, the metallic scent of blood, the smell of gunpowder, and gunfire rang loudly through the silent night. Flashes reflected from the general's katana struck from every direction. "De-mon! He... He's not huma—" another flash cut him off. "Arghh—" It pierced every vital point of its victims. Dimitri seemed to vanish into the snowstorm before reappearing from their blind spots in an instant. The group fired wildly in every direction, panicking because they believed this was the end for them. And they were not wrong. Dimitri evaded every attack. Some fired their guns while others charged at him with their bare hands. Yet he avoided them all and cut them down, one after another, every passing second. One by one, the armed men fell, leaving only a single survivor who managed to shoot Dimitri's right hand, sending his katana flying onto the snowy road. Dimitri rushed forward, kicked the man's hand and knocked the pistol away, then beat him until he was completely helpless before dragging him into the middle of the road.
Dimitri picked up his katana and questioned the man while resting the blade against his chest. When the man refused to answer, Dimitri drove the blade into his chest instead. Finally, the man confessed. "They..." he groaned in pain, "are in Japan..." he said between sobs. "...Tokyo," he finished weakly, foam forming around his mouth. "Thank you," Dimitri replied. "Sir." Dimitri gave him a warm smile. He then swung his katana and severed the man's neck before walking through the pile of corpses. He flicked the blood from his katana toward the white snow (Chiburi), sheathed the blade, and returned it to his bag.
However, as he walked away from the scene, just after taking out a cigarette and about to light it, something suddenly crossed his mind. "Arghhh!!" he shouted in frustration. "I forgot to ask about their objective again," he grumbled. "Damn it! I'm gonna get lectured again." One scenario after another ran through his head as he tried to think of a way to escape his commander's scolding. In the end, however, he still had to report to the Commander and his instructor. He explained that the situation had forced him to kill the man immediately and relayed the information he had managed to obtain. The Commander, known as Dharnov, accepted Dimitri's explanation, allowing him to avoid punishment. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for his Sensei. Once again, Dimitri had to endure the old man's lecture for hours on end.
After finally getting out of that situation, he had to attend a meeting with the other generals to discuss the case involving the extremist groups. "REDVEIL..." Resdor began the discussion. "They've been operating openly lately." They discussed REDVEIL, the global terrorist organization that had haunted the world from the shadows for years. "Hey, lil brat!" Heins called out. "What did you find yesterday?" he asked in a harsh and cynical tone, referring to the information Dimitri had obtained earlier. "Whoa, take it easy," Dimitri replied. Just because you're older doesn't mean you can act however you want, he grumbled to himself bitterly. "I obtained information that REDVEIL's higher-ups are currently in Japan," Dimitri answered calmly. "It seems they're trying to manipulate the Japanese government," Jerry said. "There's a high possibility that a major conflict will break out," he concluded. "Their elite unit, 'ChessClub,' has stepped in to ensure their mission proceeds smoothly. Although it's almost impossible for Japan to truly submit to them." "So... what exactly are they planning that would make them go this far?" Dimitri asked. "They'll most likely play it safe by making use of local criminal organizations," Resdor replied. "It looks like we'll have to intervene," Heins said with a sigh. "Hey, kid. Looks like you'll have to lead this mission again," he declared firmly. "We'll catch up with you once we've finished our business here." "Ahh, yeah, yeah," Dimitri replied with a yawn as he walked away. "What a brat," Heins muttered.
With that decided, Dimitri had to appoint his members to form squads that would be deployed across Japan. Considering the potential danger of this mission, he would also take part in the operation himself. He had to choose members of the Imperial Cards (Voron Unit) to become his squadmates during the mission in Japan. He selected Ace of Spades, Ace of Diamonds, and King of Clover. Dimitri took out his phone, scrolled through his contacts, tapped on one of them, and raised the phone to his ear. After a few moments of ringing, someone answered from the other end. "Yo... so you're still alive after all."
