Chapter 10:

The First Day of School

The Old Covenant

A few days later...

"I'm home," David said as he opened the front door.

"Dad, are you already allowed to go home?"

"Yes. The doctor said my injuries aren't too serious. None of my bones are broken. I only have a few cracked ribs."

"Even so, those injuries are still serious."

David smiled.

"Don't worry about me. I just need to rest for a while. I'll be fine soon."

Yūto smiled.

"Alright, Dad."

David slowly walked toward his room.

"Oh. Right. Tomorrow is my first day at Uncle William's school. You don't have to take me there. I can go by myself," Yūto said.

David turned around.

"Really? Alright, then. Get everything ready for tomorrow, Yūto."

Yūto smiled slightly.

"Of course."

The warm afternoon sunlight came through the windows, filling the small house with a soft glow.

It was as if even the sunlight was happy to witness the simple conversation between a father and his son.

The next morning...

Yūto walked toward David's room.

Creak...

"Dad, I made breakfast for you. Eat it while it's still warm. I'm leaving for school now."

"Take care, Yūto. Study hard."

Yūto smiled.

"Of course. I'll do my best."

Yūto then left on his bicycle.

As soon as he arrived at the school, he looked at the school building.

"Titan Academy."

Yūto smiled, and his eyes were filled with happiness.

"This time, I have to study hard."

He entered the school and walked down the hallway.

Step... Step...

He soon arrived at the teachers' room.

A teacher approached him.

"Welcome. You must be Yūto, right?"

Yūto looked at him and smiled.

"Yes. I'm Yūto."

"Come with me. I'll show you your classroom."

Yūto followed him from behind.

He passed several classrooms along the way.

'This school isn't as big as other schools, but the atmosphere seems nice,' Yūto thought.

"We're here. This is your classroom. Good luck with your studies, and I hope you enjoy your time here, Yūto."

"Thank you. I'll do my best."

Yūto then walked toward his classroom.

Knock... Knock...

Creak...

A teacher opened the door.

Yūto looked at him.

"I'm Yūto, the new transfer student."

"Come in, Yūto. Everyone, I'd like you to meet your new classmate," the teacher said.

The teacher looked at Yūto.

"Please introduce yourself, Yūto."

Yūto smiled.

"My name is Yūto. I live in Brooklyn, and I'm fifteen years old. It's nice to meet all of you."

The students looked at him for a moment.

"Alright, Yūto. You may sit in any empty seat. Now, let's continue today's lesson."

Yūto sat down at an empty desk.

'I hope today goes well,' Yūto thought.

Ding-dong!

"Alright, everyone. It's time for a break. You have thirty-five minutes. After that, we'll continue our lessons," the teacher said.

At the cafeteria, Yūto chose a seat far away from the other students.

'I hope I can eat peacefully this time,' Yūto thought.

Several hours later...

After classes ended, Yūto was about to get on his bicycle when one of his classmates approached him.

"Hey, Yūto," the boy said.

Yūto stopped and turned around.

"Yes? What is it?"

"My name is Gery. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Gery."

Gery looked a little nervous.

"Hmm... I noticed that you finished all the assignments in class very easily today. Honestly... I'm a little embarrassed to ask this, but... would you help me study?"

Yūto smiled.

"Of course. I'd be happy to help you."

"Really?"

Yūto nodded.

"Of course."

"See you tomorrow, Yūto."

Yūto smiled.

When Yūto arrived home, he saw David doing some light exercise in the yard.

"Dad? Aren't you supposed to be resting?"

"I'm still not fully recovered. But I still need to move around so my body doesn't get stiff. So, how was school today?"

Yūto was silent for a moment.

Tears began to flow from his eyes.

"Yūto? Did someone hurt you there? I knew it! Something bad must have happened."

Yūto shook his head.

"No."

David looked confused.

"Then what is it?"

"This is the first time a friend has ever praised me. I'm really happy, Dad."

Yūto smiled even though tears were still flowing down his face.

David walked toward him and hugged him.

"I'm glad to hear that, Yūto. You made me worry that something had happened to you."

Yūto wiped away his tears.

"I'm happy when you're happy too. Now, go take a shower and eat something. After that, don't forget to prepare everything for tomorrow's classes," David said.

Yūto nodded.

"Okay, Dad."
