A table was placed in the corner of the room, and it faced the closed door. A chair stood by the table, and a man sat on it.
The man was old. He wore a lapis blue thobe covered by a golden bisht with a noble feel. A pale yellow guthrah covered his hair. The blue irises within his eyes made him look prestigious. They showed how much he cared about others; with the combination of his dress and physical appearance, everyone knew he held the authority to rule a country.
Yups, this man held authority over a country. The man was a king, or as people on this continent called him, a Malik.
He was the fourth Malik of the Fahmul Kingdom, Malik Jahlan. On this continent, anyone whose lineage was connected to the first Malik of a country was able to become a Malik. On this continent, nobles or the Malik family were able to marry ordinary people. And this man's lineage was connected to the first Malik of Fahmul, Malik Samsuhal.
Malik Jahlan was more focused on the economy, different from the first Malik of Fahmul, who focused on science and the military. He was not able to handle science, and was only able to handle the military along with the economy.
His eyes fell on a sheet of paper. He looked at the strokes of writing on the paper. He knew two things: the domestic economy was growing, but the international multilateral economy had fallen extremely.
What happened? he thought.
His eyes glanced randomly over some rolled papers and stopped on the paper in the left corner of the table. His hand quickly reached toward the paper. The paper opened as he unrolled it. After looking at the strokes of writing on that paper, he knew what the problem was: too many companies had closed, and local companies' product quality had fallen unreasonably.
He knew the source of the problem: this country did not have enough of the smartest Alterions.
He only knew of the three smartest Alterions in this country. Among them was the Mudal family from the Emirate of Qushasain. He planned to hold a grand meeting with those Alterions.
He stood and walked toward the door. The door opened as he pushed it. His eyes glanced to the left side of the door. He saw a man who wore shining metallic armor. A sword inside its sheath hung from his right waist. Anyone who looked at this man would instantly know he was the Malik's guardsman, or as the people of this continent called them, a Haras al-Malik. The Haras was shocked as the door opened. He hadn't expected the door to open while he was on guard duty.
"What are you doing, Your Grace?" the Haras asked.
I plan to—"
"Salam, my honored father," the voice interrupted. He felt the voice was familiar. He looked at the source of the voice. Three people stood there.
The first person wore shining yellow metallic armor. His chin was sharp, and the red irises within his pair of eyes made him look like a professional guardsman. He was the first prince's guardsman, or as people on this continent called them, a Khassaki—the first prince's Khassaki. His name was Kuzabith, the father of Suudzina.
The second person wore a red thobe covered by a noble black bisht. A guthrah covered his hair—a red guthrah with a golden line along the edge. He was the first prince, Prince Sulaiman. He also officiated as the Minister of Law, or as people on this continent called him, the Wazir of Law.
The third person wore a green khadama. Her head was covered by a hijab—a yellow hijab with a pink line along the edge. She was a maid for the Mudal family. Yups, this person was Suudzina.
"Ya anta ma'a salam (oh you be together with salvation), my beloved and honored son," Malik Jahlan replied. Then, he called out to the staff, "Sa'af, prepare the food and bring it to the dining room!"
"Okay, my lord!" a voice replied.
"Follow me to the dining room," Malik Jahlan invited.
They walked toward the left corridor, then they turned into the room on the right and entered it.
In the middle of the room was laid a silk rug. It was red in the center and gold at the edge, with twenty sitting pillows around it. This room felt like a noble and majestic room because of its immense majesty. Ordinary people would feel they were not suitable to enter this room.
Suudzina and Kuzabith were nervous. They weren't part of the Malik's family. They wanted to leave the room. This room was so majestic; they felt they weren't worthy to sit inside it.
"Malik—"
"Don't worry, I invited you," Malik Jahlan interrupted.
"But—"
"No buts," Malik Jahlan pulled their hands.
Full of doubts, they entered the room. They sat on one of the twenty sitting pillows, but even though they were already inside, it still made them nervous.
The man entered the room. He wore a red thobe covered by a brown vest. Blue long pants covered his hips and flowed downward to his ankles. His hand held a dish. It was a metal dish with yellow rice and a lump of meat that looked like the meat of an artiodactyl animal. The cut of meat vibrated smoothly, displaying clearly the precision of the molecular cutting.
The man placed the dish on the rug softly.
"Thanks, Sa'af," Malik Jahlan murmured.
"You're welcome, Your Grace," Sa'af replied.
Malik Jahlan looked at Suudzina. "What happened?"
"I want to tell Your Grace something terrifying," Suudzina replied.
"What is it?" Malik Jahlan asked.
"Emir Farahzam—no, the Mudal family has created a dangerous alternation formula," Suudzina explained. "The formulation is in progress. This is Your Grace's chance to stop it."
"How does the formulation work?" Malik Jahlan asked seriously.
"Users can disguise themselves as other people without changing their true appearance, but there must be a soul sacrifice," Suudzina explained.
"The Disturbing Alternation," Malik Jahlan hissed. Then he softly spoke to Suudzina, "Thanks for the information."
"Do you want to go to the Qushasain Emirate tomorrow, my honored father?" Prince Sulaiman asked.
"Yes, of course," Malik Jahlan hissed.
"Why did you look confused earlier, my honored father?" Prince Sulaiman asked.
"Our economy in the world perspective has fallen drastically," Malik Jahlan replied.
"What is your next step, my honored father?" Prince Sulaiman asked.
"I planned to hold a discussion with the three smartest Alterions, but based on Suudzina's information—"
"The Mudal family plans to do evil things?" Prince Sulaiman interrupted.
"Yes," Malik Jahlan hissed.
"Will your plans for discussion be canceled because of that?" Prince Sulaiman asked.
"I hope I can continue that plan," Malik Jahlan hissed.
