Chapter 18:
Marvel & DC: Nexus Breach
"Red... Red Queen. No, Red Empress?"
Mason hesitated.
Her current appearance was nothing like the child in the movie, but it absolutely matched his taste.
Pale skin, a stunning face, a sweet voice, and, most importantly, that body.
Mason nodded inwardly without letting it show.
"The Red Queen's current image was calculated through data modeling as the form Master is most likely to accept."
"If Master dislikes it, the image can be changed."
Her voice was soft and entirely unlike a machine.
'Now that was one hell of a virtual dream girl.'
"No need."
"Red Empress?"
"No. Red Queen is fine. It rolls off the tongue better."
Tony had only kept a fragment, and JARVIS had already digested it as data. There was no practical issue with sharing the name.
"As you command, Master."
"Designation recorded."
The Red Queen bowed, perfectly shaped around his preferences. Mason went straight to the point.
"What can you do right now?"
"If Master grants authorization, the Red Queen can bring the global network under observation within three days."
"The network will become your sight and your blade. Any network not controlled by artificial intelligence can be covered without alerting its users. Artificial intelligences can also be invaded and breached rapidly."
"In this world, there is currently no place capable of stopping me."
She spoke calmly, as if describing something trivial. In a way, it was.
As a virtual intelligence, the Red Queen was at least a century beyond modern information technology.
She was an information ghost.
If not for the absurd scientists, artifacts, and cosmic forces in the Marvel universe, her current technology and learning speed would already be enough to build a global surveillance net.
"Then start with New York."
"Bring the city I'm in under control first."
Mason nodded. Finally, he could open the map and stop stumbling around blind.
"Too bad the system needs two days before the next round refreshes."
He rubbed his hands, genuinely regretful.
After tasting rapid growth once, he was already looking forward to the next harvest.
One invasion had rebuilt him from the inside out and taken him from dead weight to a real contender.
The main Marvel timeline had only just begun. The dangerous mid-game had not yet erupted.
Dormammu, the Ancient One, Odin, Mephisto, and other ancient, top-tier forces were mostly hidden in the background.
The active early heroes were still within reach when his abilities worked together.
"I don't even know how strong I am now."
He had to admit he was getting a little full of himself.
"The only question is..."
"What world will the next invasion be?"
Mason leaned back and watched the countdown on the system panel.
Every invasion had to be drawn by his own hand. Before the anchor locked, even he could not predict it.
Still, the Marvel world had a high enough ceiling. It probably would not collapse easily and ruin his effortless growth.
"Probably."
Mason rubbed his chin, not entirely certain.
...
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters. Top-secret research level. Footsteps echoed through the underground hall, sharp and hurried. Senior researchers moved between consoles while instruments surrounded the central testing area.
Natasha stood in combat gear, demonstrating Rokushiki under layers of sensors. Data streamed across the screens.
"Director."
"Initial testing is complete."
"According to Natasha, Rokushiki should come from another world. It appears to be a naval combat technique used to enhance elite troops."
"It is not a mutant power. It can be taught."
Coulson hurried toward Fury with a stack of documents.
"It can be taught?"
Fury's interest sharpened. Then he saw Coulson's grim expression.
"What's the flaw?"
"Physical conditioning."
Coulson chose his words carefully.
"Rokushiki exceeds ordinary human limits. It cannot be used casually. Even if it can be taught, our agents' bodies cannot handle it."
"Among high-level agents, only five or six barely meet the initial requirements. Even then, after training one technique, their bodies begin to fail. None of them can do what Natasha does."
Rokushiki was too powerful for ordinary people.
To master all of it, they would need a mutant with physical enhancement or something comparable.
"Limited by physical conditioning."
Fury went quiet, thinking. Some of his plans needed to move sooner. A special operations team built from powered individuals. The Avengers Initiative. Tony's trouble with the military might be the perfect opening.
...
Stark Industries Tower.
"Sir, the military is requesting a call. Shall I connect it?"
JARVIS's voice came from the screen.
"Decline."
Tony did not even look up from the workbench.
"Those overfed pigs really don't know when to quit."
His face showed open disgust.
But compared with that noise, he had something far more important to handle.
"JARVIS."
"How is the integration going?"
"Initial fusion is complete, sir. I am processing data from the Red Queen intelligence module."
"Large amounts of Umbrella Corporation technology detected."
"Relevant biotechnology decrypted."
"Loading..."
Data flooded across the electronic screens like a waterfall. Tony's eyes lit up.
The technologies were unfamiliar, advanced, and stylistically different from anything in this world.
To a top scientist, they were priceless.
"This weapon can be loaded onto the Mark armor..."
"This system could improve power endurance..."
"This alloy formula can strengthen the suit's defense..."
Tony muttered to himself, eyes shining. Tonight would be another sleepless night. The busty women on the West Coast would have to wait.
...
Hydra. Inside a long-abandoned base, human activity suddenly returned.
...
Metropolis.
Batman stepped out of the Batmobile, walked straight into a pizza shop, and pulled a broad-shouldered man aside.
"Clark, we need to do something."
