Chapter 7:

She is Number 1!

Say Something

It was the next day of German class. Jeff, Charia, Volker and Selina were all now seated. It was a little cloudy today.

Selina glared at Charia with a fierce intensity. She almost gave an evil grin, which showed her pearly whites and caused wrinkles to form at her cheeks and eyes. Charia was her #1 Rival, and Selina was going to destroy Charia with her superb and perfectly done German sentences about Lemons.

Professorin Homolko-Pohen collected all of her students’ homework assignments and looked at each of them.

She saw Jeff’s:

1.) Was ist eine Zitrone? (What is a lemon?)

2.) Die Zitrone isn’t gelb. (The lemon is yellow)

3.) Ich mag Zitrone. (I like lemon)

She saw Volker’s:

Zitronen sind gelb. Ich mag eine Frau mit Zitronen. (Lemons are yellow. I like a woman with lemons)

Professorin Homolko-Pohen saw Charia’s:

Ich habe Zitronen. Ich esse gern Zitronen. Zitronen sind schmeckt. (I have lemons. I like to eat lemons. Lemons are tasty.

Then, finally, she saw Selina’s.

I really like lemons. The lemon is yellow and very sour. I recommend that people drink lemon juice with clean water every day because it is excellent for the health.

One says,

“If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

However, we should instead make more lemons. We can plant lemon seeds, and then we will have many more lemons.

When a yellow car was driven by me, I ate a lemon. I squeezed the lemon too hard and the lemon juice flew into my eyes.

The sharp pain was so great, that I could not control my car, and I drove into a lemonade stand. Lemons were everywhere in the street and under my wheels. On this day, many lemons had been given to me.

Nevertheless, I did not want to squeeze any lemons. I did not want to make any lemonade. I made lemonade already, when I had driven the car with a lemon in my hand, and that made me drive into the lemonade stand.

We must conserve our lemons and only squeeze them at the right time.

Professorin Homolko-Pohen stared at Selina’s paper, as if she was in complete confusion.

„Ehhh... Frau Selina...“

Did you use a translator or copy from the internet?

Selina’s countenance was filled with nothing but pride and joy. “No 😀”, replied Selina.

“I see... I see... Well, it is clear that you are already very good in German, so I will have you removed from this class. I will speak with you about it later, Ja?”

Selina’s countenance was now filled with shock, as she realized that she had gone too far to impress Professorin Homolko-Pohen; Selina was too good for her own good.

“Is there anyone else pretending to not know any German? Any native Germans here?” Professor Homolko-Pohen questioned.

Charia and Volker both froze and avoided eye contact with the Professorin, as if she was Medusa. Meanwhile, Jeff just let out a sigh.

Selina was upset. She had yet again lost to her lifelong rival, Charia von Hürlimann.

Class resumed.

Later on that day, Jeff saw Selina after class. She appeared to be sad and disheartened.

“Good day, uhhh... Frau Selina. Right now, Charia, Volker and I are going to the arcade. Would you like to come?”, invited Jeff.

Suddenly, a fire lit up in Selina’s crimson eyes once again. Jeff could sense her determination, and he was confused as to why Selina was so gung-ho.

Well, Selina could now challenge Charia to a video game duel and regain her honor... and become the best!

“JA, LOS GEHTS! (Let’s go!)”

The arcade was as dark as a movie theater, but the many lights from the arcade games provided enough illumination.

There were many games to choose from... The group went from playing games like Table Hockey, Basketball and shooting games... In terms of total points, Selina lost all of the games to Charia! Selina pulled at the strands of her own long blonde hair.

(Selina Inner Thoughts)

“Are you kidding me! How could I lose every single game so far to her? Is Charia using aimbot? I feel like a total noob.”

Then, there was the 1 game that if she could win against Charia at, Selina thought she would destroy Charia’s dignity... uhhh... Crash Team Racing!?

“Charia always loved to play Crash Bandicoot games... If I can beat her at this, I will... I will be the besten!”, Selina thought to herself.

The group of 4 sat in their car seats and started the game. They also chose their players and selected the “Nitro Cup” racing tournament.

The race was about to begin. Volker, Charia, Selina and Jeff revved their engines. The light turned green and they all pushed the pedal to the metal. Charia and Selina were drifting and boosting to go faster and get through sharper turns.

For two races, Selina was 2nd place (12 points), while Charia was 1st (19 points). In the third race, however, Charia got 3rd place (21 points), while Selina was in 1st place (21 points).

Meanwhile the much more inexperienced boys sulked, as they were in last place for every race. They had 0 points still!

Over time, Charia and Selina’s races built an audience around them. A crowd was watching, eagerly; they cheered; some for Charia and some people for Selina. It was now the final race!

Selina and Charia were headed towards the finish line. They were neck and neck. However, Selina had a trick up her sleeve. She had a boost that she saved, just in case that this would happen.

“IT’S OVER!” yelled Selina, as she dramatically raised her hand in the air and pushed a button on her arcade steering wheel.

K A B O O M!

“Ehhhh!...”

The audience roared in excitement.

“I... I... pushed the wrong button! 😫” realized Selina.

For this dreadful race, Selina came in fourth place. While, Charia came in third place. The computer players came in 1st and 2nd.

As for the final scores:

1st Place - 24 Points (Charia)

2nd Place - 22 Points (Selina)

3rd Place - 21 Points (CPU)

Selina was in utter disbelief... she was so close to winning. At this point, she just gave up and sat there with a depressed expression, as Charia’s character, “Fake Crash”, danced around and shook his buttocks in the name of victory.

Jeff noticed and he felt that he should say something. Jeff decided to cheer her up.

“Well, being the ‘besten’, does not always mean that you have to be #1. You know... you put on a great show for a lot of people and made them happy. It is not likely that they will forget this day. In their eyes... and in my eyes... Selina, you are #1.” confessed Jeff, as he smiled and scratched the back of his head.

Selina’s eyes widened. Her heart stopped, but she was certainly moved by Jeff’s words. A slight blush appeared upon her pale cheeks. Subsequently, Selina came back to her senses and gave a quick “Th-thanks.”

Selina’s heart began to beat as fast as a machine gun firing, as she held onto her chest through her shirt and tried to understand her feelings.

Suddenly, three strange below average height men, who all seemed to be college students and had eyes like a fish, and a short woman with brown hair that wore a red and yellow robe and hat came from the cheering crowd walked up to Selina.

The short woman who appeared to be a cosplayer dressed as a magician complimented, “WOW. YOU WERE SO AWESOME. WE ARE YOUR #1 FANS! CAN WE HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH?”

Selina signed the three persons’ foreheads with permanent marker. She then raised one of her hands to her mouth and then gave off a haughty laugh, “Fufufu… hohohoho!”

In a couple of days, “The Selina von Besten Praise the Sun Fan Club” was created.

To Be Continued.
