Chapter 1: The Rise of Rattonius

Rattonius the Shaky was ambushed. His profound greed led him deep into hostile territory, and while quenching his thirst by the stream, the enemy had encroached upon him.

"I applaud your courage, squeaky one. Pillaging our alley's riches without remorse. Accept your punishment, marauder!"

Raising his head in horror, Rattonius narrowly dodged the feline's vicious opening strike. Fear-stricken, he dashed for safety, his scourge, however, granting no quarter. Ferocious lashes hammered into him, the compounding blows swiftly bringing Rattonius to his knees.

The thunderous crashing of the currents behind him denied an easy escape. So Rattonius sat, accepting an end to his short yet fulfilling life. Fate loomed menacingly above, its claws glistening with prideful lethality as they prepared to grant a final mercy.

Even the beast was surprised as its trusted tools missed their mark. In a moment of desperate defiance, Rattonius managed to evade the strike, igniting a fire. A fire he recognized as courage.

"Forgive me, ancestors, for delaying our reunion, for Rattonius the Shaky is no more. Before you stands Rattonius the Brave, and the brave will manage to defy even fate itself!"

With renewed spirit, Rattonius lunged at his adversary, weaving between its mortal swipes and retaliating with a flurry of his own, until finally a blow connected!

The beast sprang in surprise, its otherwise regal coat bristling with needles as it inched back into the shadows.

"Stacy, my wittle cutiepie! Come inside! Dinner is ready!"

Summoned by its master's omnipresent call, the irritated golden dots floating in the darkness vanished in a foreboding hiss.

Rattonius had done the unthinkable. Sinking to his knees, he let the grandeur of the moment settle over him.
"Blessed be the gods who favor me this day. Let it be known: the beast that hunts our kind can bleed, and it was Rattonius who drew first blood! Let this be the first battle in the war that reclaims what is ours!"
