Chapter 6:

Meddlesome Tenya Iida

My Hero Academia: Soulwood

Kamui Woods stared at his phone, his expression shifting into disbelief.

"Quirk... Fire Breath. Can breathe flames from his mouth," he read from the file Mt. Lady had sent him.

The information made no sense.

Click.

He darkened the screen, then dropped into a nearby chair. Tilting his head back, he muttered, "His Quirk is Fire Breath? But according to the witnesses, his Quirk looked a lot like mine. His hand turned into vines."

"So why does his file say Fire Breath? Does he have two Quirks? No... maybe three."

Kamui Woods worked through it piece by piece. Even if Toma's Quirk was vines, or even if it was fire, the robber should have had wounds from the fight. But that was the strange part.

There had been no visible injuries on the body. Even the man's clothes had been clean.

That was why Kamui Woods suspected Toma might have a third Quirk. If he did, what exactly was it? He exhaled slowly. The more he thought about it, the less it made sense.

For the first time in a while, finding the truth felt more interesting than fighting villains.

"I'll figure out what is really going on," Kamui Woods said quietly.

The next morning, Toma learned from his parents that today was the day of U.A.'s entrance exam. At first, he had assumed this world was another mistaken transfer, so he had not taken it seriously.

Now that he knew the System had placed him here on purpose, he accepted it calmly enough. After breakfast, he set out.

At eight thirty, Toma stood before a massive building and looked at the sign on the right. U.A. High School - Entrance Exam Venue.

"This should be the place," he muttered, then walked in.

He checked the ticket in his hand. Applicant No. 2265. Practical Exam Site B. Inside, he entered a dark auditorium. It was almost full already. The room was laid out like a movie theater, with a large screen at the front.

Toma found his seat and sat down. About ten minutes later, every seat was full. The room fell quiet. Clap. Clap. Clap.

The lights above the front screen suddenly came on, and the U.A. logo appeared. A blond man with his hair swept straight up shouted from the screen.

"Welcome, my examinee listeners, to today's live show!"

He was the Voice Hero, Present Mic. Present Mic kept the energy high, throwing out several more lines. When the room gave him almost nothing back, he finally gave up.

"Tough crowd. All right, examinee listeners, I'll keep the practical exam explanation nice and simple."

After that, he explained the basics. The applicants would enter a training ground and use their Quirks to defeat mock villains.

There were four types of targets, each worth a different number of points. When Present Mic finished, Toma and the others boarded a bus headed for Practical Exam Site B.

On the bus, he saw Izuku Midoriya with that nervous, lost-looking expression on his face. The site was not far. After a short ride, the bus stopped, and the applicants gathered in front of a large gate.

Toma looked at Midoriya, who was trembling from head to toe. The sight made him laugh under his breath.

Immediately, several people turned strange looks toward him.

Smack.

A hand landed on Toma's shoulder. He turned his head on instinct.

"Did you come to this exam just to interfere with other people?" Tenya Iida stared at him with a stern, humorless expression.

Toma frowned and brushed the hand off his shoulder. Then he gave Iida a cold smile.

"People who don't know when to stay out of things usually die first."

Iida's face darkened.

"What did you say?"

"Stay away from me," Toma said.

A vein stood out on Iida's forehead. His fists clenched, and the air around them grew tense. Before it could go any further, Present Mic's voice rang out from a tower nearby.

"What are you two doing? Planning to start a fight?"

"And the rest of you, what are you waiting for? Real battles don't come with countdowns! Run, run! The exam has already started!"

The moment Present Mic finished speaking, applicants began sprinting through the gate. Toma gave Iida an unsettling smile, then turned around. He did not run. He walked forward at an unhurried pace.
