Chapter 18:

Surrounded by Enemies

The Old Covenant

A few days later...

It was a bright morning.

Sunlight slowly came through the gap in the window, filling the room with warmth.

Ring... Ring...

David picked up the phone.

"Hello, Torino. What's up?"

"David! I found one of the locations that is believed to be a branch of "The Covenant"!"

David was surprised.

"Send me the location."

Torino was silent for a moment.

"But there's something you need to know."

David frowned.

"What is it?"

"Donald! He's also involved with "The Covenant"!"

"How did you find out?"

"I tracked everything. And that's not all. The most dangerous person isn't Donald, but "The Think"! Donald is one of "The Think"'s subordinates."

""The Think"? Do you know where he is?"

"No. I haven't been able to locate him. There is very little information about "The Think", but his network is spread across America and Europe. He's one of the elite members of "The Covenant"."

"Let's meet at our usual place in thirty minutes."

The call ended.

Knock... Knock...

"Dad," Yūto called.

Click!

"What is it, Yūto?" David said.

"Today is my final exam. I'll demonstrate the kendo techniques I've learned for the past two and a half years. Can you come to school and watch me?"

David took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry, Yūto. I really want to see you, but there's something very important and urgent that I have to take care of. I have to go."

Yūto lowered his head.

"Alright, then."

David placed both hands on Yūto's shoulders.

"I'll come to you as soon as I finish my business."

Yūto nodded.

Half an hour later, David waved at Torino, who was sitting with William.

"Hey, David. So, what's our plan?" Torino asked.

"Same as usual. William and I will move in front. You watch the road and keep an eye on us, Torino."

William nodded.

"Let's move! I promised Yūto that I would come to his school!" David said.

William looked at him.

"I should be there too. I need to watch all of my students' exams."

"Let's not waste any time," Torino said.

After about twenty minutes, they arrived at an empty warehouse.

"Is this the right place, Torino?" David asked through the communication device in his ear.

"Yes. In front of you, there is a large room. It is probably the main room. Before you go there, enter the room on your left. It'll lead to a small room that connects to the main room from the side," Torino explained through the earpiece.

"Alright."

David and William slowly entered the room on the left.

Creak...

David opened the door and looked inside.

There were about five men wearing black suits.

"Oops... Looks like we picked the wrong room," William muttered.

"This room is too small to fight freely," David muttered.

There was a long table, several chairs, and walls surrounding them.

The five men stood in front of David and William.

One of them stepped forward.

David looked at him calmly.

"Don't let them attack us all at once," David said quietly.

William looked at him.

"Do you have a plan?"

David gave a small smile.

"Use them to get in each other's way."

The first man threw a punch.

David did not fight back.

He simply moved half a step to the side.

The punch missed and hit the wall.

Before the man could pull his hand back, David grabbed his wrist and pulled him forward.

Slam!

The man crashed into one of his own teammates.

Both of them stumbled.

William moved immediately.

He kicked the leg of a nearby chair.

The chair slid toward two men who were trying to move forward.

The chair slammed into one man's legs, causing him to lose his balance.

William rushed in and used his shoulder to push the man against the table.

Thud!

The table moved several inches.

The man was trapped between the table and William.

William then picked up an empty glass from the table and dropped it onto the floor.

Crash!

All five men looked down for a moment.

"Why did you break the glass?" David asked.

William grinned.

"So they would look down."

David immediately understood.

He grabbed the chair that had fallen earlier and held it up as a shield.

One of the men tried to kick him from the side.

David raised the chair.

The kick hit the leg of the chair.

David turned the chair, hooking one of its legs behind the man's knee.

He pulled.

The man lost his balance and fell to the floor.

Before he could get back up, William pushed the table.

The table hit two men at once.

"Don't let them surround us!" William shouted.

David quickly moved back toward the corner.

Three men came after him.

But the small room worked to David's advantage.

The first of the three men attacked.

David ducked.

He then grabbed the man's shoulder and turned him around.

The man's body hit the wall.

The second man came from the side.

David heard his footsteps.

He pulled the first man slightly to the side.

Bam!

The second man hit his own teammate in the back.

"Thank you," David said.

Meanwhile, William was fighting two men near the table.

One of them tried to punch him.

William grabbed his arm.

Instead of throwing him down, William pulled the man forward.

The man became a shield.

His teammate's punch hit his shoulder instead.

William immediately took advantage of the opening.

He struck the attacker's arm, forcing him to let go, then pushed him toward the door.

Bang!

The door flew open.

The man fell outside.

William quickly closed the door again.

"David!"

David saw the last two men move toward them together.

"Yeah."

They stood side by side.

David took one step back.

William took one step to the side.

They deliberately created an opening between them.

The two men saw the opening.

They attacked immediately.

But as soon as they entered, David and William moved at the same time.

David pulled the man on the left toward him.

William pushed the man on the right toward the center.

The two men crashed into each other.

Thud!

Before they could understand what had happened, David kicked the leg of the table.

The table moved and hit one of the man's legs.

He fell.

William used the fallen man's body as a step and jumped over the table.

He landed right behind the last man.

The man turned around.

Too late.

William simply gave him a hard push in the back.

The man fell onto two of his teammates who were still on the floor.

The room suddenly became silent.

None of the five men could stand anymore.

David straightened his sleeve.

William took a deep breath.

"You know, I'm starting to like small rooms," William said.

David smiled as he looked at the table and chairs scattered around the room.

"If the room were bigger, we might've had a harder time."

William gave a small laugh.

"That's true."

David walked past the five men.

William followed him.

They then looked toward the main room.

"Empty..." David muttered.

William looked inside as well.

They both entered the room.

David and William looked around.

Suddenly, all the doors closed and locked.

Click! Click!

Only one door remained in the corner of the room.

David and William suddenly heard footsteps coming from the other side of the building.

Suddenly, that door opened.

More than twenty men wearing black suits entered the room.

Donald followed behind them.

A few moments earlier...

A group of men wearing black suits entered the building at the same time.

Torino narrowed his eyes.

"Damn! I have to warn David and William!"

Torino quickly tried to access the security cameras.

"Damn it! The system isn't responding!"

Torino took a deep breath.

"I hope they're alright," he muttered.

At present...

"Donald!" David muttered.

"David and William. You two are quite impressive for finding this place!"

"I don't want to waste time talking! Are you one of "The Covenant"?"

Donald laughed.

"What are we, children? You ask, and I answer? Do you really think it's that simple, David?"

"Donald! Have you lost your mind?!" William shouted.

"William, you're too naive. Everyone has ambitions! I'm only using the resources I have. What's wrong with that?"

"You bastard! I'll take you down!"

Donald laughed.

"Deal with my men first. Then I'll deal with you!"

David and William stood in the middle of the room, surrounded by more than twenty men.

David and William looked at each other.

"This is going to be exhausting," David muttered.

"Let's do it!"

David raised both hands into a defensive stance.

William stood beside him.

"Don't separate," David said.

William nodded.

Five men charged at them at the same time.

David blocked one punch, but a second punch hit him in the jaw.

Pow!

His head snapped to the side.

At the same time, William took a punch to the stomach and stumbled back several steps.

But both of them remained standing.

David immediately grabbed one man's arm and pulled him toward two other attackers.

Their bodies crashed into each other.

William used the opening to rush into the middle and take one man down with a leg sweep.

Three men attacked from behind.

David turned just in time, but a punch hit him in the cheek.

He staggered.

William quickly stepped in and struck the attacker before he could attack again.

"David!"

"I'm still fine."

They stood side by side again.

The number of enemies continued to decrease.

But the fight was starting to wear them down.

William took another punch to the shoulder.

David received a kick to the ribs and winced in pain.

But they kept moving.

David drew several men toward him.

William used the opening to attack from the other side.

Then, when William started getting surrounded, David quickly stepped in and broke their formation.

One by one, their enemies fell.

Minutes passed.

Finally, no one was left standing.

The room was filled with the sound of heavy breathing.

David stood while holding his ribs.

William wiped the small amount of blood from the corner of his mouth.

They looked at each other.

David took a deep breath.

"They're stronger than the five we fought before," David muttered.

William was breathing heavily.

"You're right."

David then looked at Donald.

"Now you're the only one left!"

Donald walked toward them.

He stood directly in front of David and William.

"Now it's time for the real show!"
