Chapter 8:
OHCRAP: Out of Head, Caught in a Reincarnation Adventure Paradox
Whistle
"Wow... Now that's a view."
In front of me, an even more magical scene than the landscape from my room was unfolding.
Why? Well, let's say the daytime view is especially unique.
In the sky, a large yellow sun, common on Earth, brightly illuminates the day, but unlike Earth, it's not alone.
Beside it, and smaller in size, a blue sun shone like a younger brother, but incredibly, that wasn't what impressed me most.
"So we don't just have two moons at night, we're in a binary solar system AND a binary planetary system, haha! NOW that's impressive!" I can't help but say, seeing the giant planet so close, occupying a large part of the horizon while competing for space between the suns, clouds, and particularly enormous mountains.
"So that's a planet? Makes sense it's so big," says Joseph.
"So you remember science but not me?" Helena says, staring at me.
Cough, cough
"I mean, something like that, binary something. Haha..." I try to escape, but Helena's gaze doesn't waver.
"Mystral," Clara murmurs.
"My what?" Dan repeats.
"Mystral. It's the name they give to that planet, and actually, they refer to it as a moon..." Clara explains, but turning to me right after. "Are you sure it's not a moon?"
"I... remember seeing a... documentary, yeah, where they talked about moons and if this were a moon, to appear so close and visible in the sky like this, it would have to be too close; close enough to be a disaster... So it's obviously a planet, a planet at a considerable distance," I respond.
I mean, they didn't come from exactly the same world as mine, but I believe TikTok and its short videos don't exist for them yet.
Who knew those useless disposable content videos about astronomy that I couldn't stop watching would serve me for something.
"Wow, that's interesting... I wonder if there's life there?" Dan asks.
"Who knows... But considering the desert-like appearance, I'd guess it's a barren planet," I respond while getting lost in the magical view.
Taking me out of my daydream, Alex, who'd been quiet until now, points to the yellow sun and says: "The priests and the nun from before are from the church of Pyreon; a religion devoted to the yellow sun. I also heard there's another major faction that worships Azure, the small blue sun."
"Well, considering we're in a binary solar system, the blue and more distant sun is probably much larger than the yellow sun..." Joseph murmurs, almost inaudible, while staring thoughtfully at the horizon.
Clap-clap
The sound of clapping takes our focus off the view, making us turn to find two twin old men walking in our direction.
Well, I don't know if they're really twins, since old white, skinny, bearded men naturally don't differ much, but if I had to guess, they're at least relatives.
With their almost identical clothes, they differed only by the colors of the details on their exuberant garments: Both wearing adorned robes that matched the unique colors of their eyes, the only point of divergence between the two gentlemen; one violet and the other red.
"I didn't expect to see any neurons in the dimensional summoned youth," says the old man in red.
"I didn't expect to see any neurons in youth, in general..." completes the violet twin.
Seeing that no one's going to speak, I take the lead and respond politely: "Thank you..." after a brief pause, I complete, "and you gentlemen are?"
Okay, I haven't even left the castle's inner gates and we've already been approached by mysterious characters...
But why old men? Normally wouldn't it be young lords who feel jealous of our talent and to show they're worth—
"You can call me Nemo," says the old man in red, interrupting my monologue.
"And I'm Nihil. We are the masters of the magical tower in Glooven," says the old man in violet.
"Magical tower? Aren't you from the church like all the other old—I mean, the other respectable gentlemen?" Helena asks.
Cough-cough
"My brother here can clearly be confused with an... old priest, but no, we're not from the church," says Nemo.
Slap
Nihil, the violet old man, quickly slaps his brother's head and continues: "We're from the magical tower, an intercontinental human magical institution. We open a magical tower in each country and we..." he says, puffing out his skinny chest under the luxurious robes, "are the powerful tower masters! Amazing, right?"
"..."
"A-amazing, haha..." Joseph, Joh, Dan, and Alex respond awkwardly.
"Can we help you with something, master tower lords?" I ask politely.
They're certainly not the type of characters I want to irritate from the start.
"Quite the contrary, we want to help you," Nemo says as he and his brother pass by us.
"From what I can see, you plan to visit the city; so come on, we'll take you this time," Nihil completes, walking toward the inner gate without waiting for our response.
"..."
After a brief moment of mutual staring among everyone in the group, we nod in defeat and decide to follow them.
⁂
"Sirs, the church of Pyreon is taking care of the travel—" One of the guards in Pyreon cleric robes guarding the castle's inner gate tries to argue before being interrupted by the twins.
"We already said we're taking care of this group's tour, stop busting my balls or you'll turn into pudding," interrupts the violet old man, making the guard tremble with fear.
Without another word, the guard takes a step back, deciding not to hinder the group's passage anymore.
"I-I wish you a g-good tour," the guard says, stuttering.
Okay, this certainly can't be a good sign.
⁂
Walking through the streets, I'm impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the place.
"What an organized city..." I can't help but murmur.
"Where you came from isn't like this?" asks the old man in red.
"Actually, it's quite organized, I just... didn't expect such organization in a medieval world," I clarify.
I mean, even with so many carriages and horses on the street, it's impressive that the streets and sidewalks remain so clean and odorless.
"Medieval, huh; interesting term. Does your world's era have such drastic changes to the point of classifying this world as medieval with just a brief look?" Nihil asks.
"Well, I'd say yes," I respond.
Well, it's no secret.
"Impressive, for a world without magic," says Nemo, entering the conversation. "Well, this is the commercial center of the inner city; what do you think?" He continues, changing the subject as we arrive at a more open location.
A large circular plaza opened before us, surrounded by medieval buildings of at least five floors. Each storefront had carefully engraved signs with elegant writing—'Thornwick's Forge,' 'The Noble's Rest,' 'Master's Armory.' Some of the letters seemed to glow somehow, though I couldn't tell if it was just polished metal catching the sunlight.
